About the workplace The City Environment Department has overall responsibility for the city's public spaces and collective accessibility. Approximately 900 people work at the department. The City Environment Department is part of the urban development departments in Gothenburg City. Job Responsibilities Do you want to lead an operation with an important role in ensuring well-functioning, safe, and sustainable infrastructure in Gothenburg? We are now seeking a unit manager for the Building Structures unit. As a unit manager, you lead and develop the unit's operations with responsibility for personnel, work environment, and budget. You lead and coach approximately ten employees, consisting of planning managers and project managers, and are responsible for ensuring that operations are conducted within established financial frameworks and toward set goals. The unit's mission is to manage, develop, and long-term ensure the city's existing and future facilities within building structures and technical systems. The work contributes to well-functioning, safe, and secure traffic and public transport infrastructure and also includes freight traffic to the archipelago and water-adjacent activities. The unit also participates in strategic planning for proximity to water. A central part of the assignment is to plan and implement reinvestments in the facility assets to ensure function, quality, and long-term value. Since 2023, intensive work has been underway to recover maintenance debt and function in facilities that the department has taken over. Going forward, the operation also needs to prepare to receive and manage additional facilities. In this role, you also work on developing working methods and procedures for efficient and fit-for-purpose operations. You act as project and assignment owner for the unit's projects and assignments and collaborate with other parts of the department and the city, including through specialist support and review within the unit's technical areas. You are part of the division's management group together with six other unit managers and contribute there to developing and optimizing the division's operations as a whole. Qualifications We are looking for you with relevant university or college education in urban development, roads and water, building technology, construction, or another technically relevant field for the position. You have several years of documented experience as a manager with personnel, work environment, and budget responsibility. We also see that you have documented: experience in change management as well as culture and values-based work experience in working with development and process-oriented approaches experience with and understanding of planning and implementing reinvestments and management of building structures knowledge of union cooperation and workplace legislation. It is meritorious if you have completed leadership training or have experience in developmental leadership. We also view positively experience in contract operations and knowledge of municipal operations. To succeed in this role, you need to be able to look beyond and see how your own operations connect with other parts of the organization and the city's overall mission. You are analytical, goal and results-oriented, and actively work to develop operations. As a leader, you are responsive and have the ability to create engagement and participation. You see opportunities in change and can drive development forward even when conditions change.
