We are now looking for a calm, steady, and clear person who wants to work closely with a grade 3 student who needs individual support throughout the school day. The student needs an adult who creates structure, predictability, and a sense of security. An important part of the assignment is to help the student engage in instruction, understand what will happen, and manage situations that can sometimes become difficult or overwhelming.
About the Position
The position is full-time and is a fixed-term employment for one year.
You will primarily follow and support one student during the school day and work closely with the student's teacher, special educator, and other staff.
Your support includes, among other things:
helping the student start and complete assignments
preparing for lessons, transitions, and changes
breaking down instructions into smaller and clearer steps
helping the student maintain focus and return to work
noticing early signs of stress and helping the student return to a calm state
creating a sense of security during breaks, lunch, and transitions
using visual supports, schedules, timers, and other clarifying strategies.
Who Are We Looking For?
For this role, your personality is just as important as your education.
We are looking for someone who is calm, confident, and patient. You are skilled at building relationships and understand that a secure relationship is the foundation for being able to set expectations and help the student progress. You also need to be able to work closely with teachers and other school staff and follow the strategies and structures in place around the student.
Experience with children with autism, ADHD, or individual support is a merit. Education in, for example, pedagogy, childhood and leisure, or social work is also a merit, but we place great emphasis on personal suitability.
