PhD Student in Chemistry - Semi-Solid Electrolytes for Lithium-Ion Batteries
Uppsala Universitet · Full-time
Box 523, Uppsala, Sweden
Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education within the field of chemistry. The department has 270 employees and generates 300 million Swedish kronor in revenue. At the department's six programs, highly successful research of international caliber is conducted. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international collaboration, and we see continued strong growth in our research area. The department has educational responsibility within engineering and civil engineering programs as well as master's programs. More information is available on our website: www.uu.se/institution/kemi-angstrom The Structural Chemistry program at the Department of Chemistry – Ångström has, for many years, conducted activities focused on the development of materials and applications in the battery field: Ångström Advanced Battery Center. We develop new electrode and electrolyte materials, characterize them, improve materials with respect to battery performance, and study fundamental chemical properties in batteries using both experimental and theoretical methods. The research is thus both fundamental and applied. Job Description We are seeking a motivated and ambitious PhD student to develop semi-solid electrolytes and characterize their application and performance in lithium-ion batteries. The project encompasses formulation of electrolytes as well as design and testing of batteries. The PhD projects will include extensive work with characterization methods such as electrochemistry, spectroscopy, microscopy, and structural characterization. The PhD student will design, plan, and conduct the experimental work, often in collaboration with colleagues, critically analyze and discuss results, and disseminate the work orally at scientific conferences and in writing through articles in peer-reviewed journals and the doctoral thesis. PhD studies also include courses and, to some extent, teaching or other institutional duties. Qualification Requirements Eligibility for doctoral studies requires that the applicant has: available an advanced degree in chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, or materials science, or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level (including 15 higher education credits for independent work), with content relevant to the doctoral program, or in some other way, within or outside the country, acquired substantially equivalent knowledge The applicant should further have: very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written. being highly motivated and able to work independently and as part of a large team. knowledge of and experience with electrochemical processes and characterization of battery materials Great weight will also be given to personal qualities such as good teamwork ability, drive and independence, as well as how the applicant, through experience and competence, is assessed to have the ability needed to complete the doctoral studies. Desirable/Meriting Qualifications It is desirable that the applicant has educational or research experience with batteries, electrolytes, and/or polymers.
