Ecology and Evolution
The thesis work will be conducted within the framework of the interdisciplinary project 'BALANCE in Wetlands: Balanced measures for reduced carbon leakage and nature conservation simultaneously in wetlands', which is financed by Formas. The project group includes researchers in ecology, hydrology and biogeochemistry. The purpose of the research project is to study how different goals can be balanced in the restoration of wetlands, where an important part includes monitoring of large-scale restoration measures in collaboration with several regional administrative boards. Within the framework of the research project, the doctoral student project will mainly focus on the effect of restoration measures on the abundance and species number of insects and spiders, as well as underlying mechanisms such as the effect of oxygen deficiency in wet soil. The doctoral student will also collaborate with other researchers to integrate effects on biodiversity with effects on ecosystem processes such as hydrology and biogeochemistry.
Eligibility Requirements
To be admitted to research education, the applicant must have basic and special eligibility. Eligibility must be fulfilled no later than the last application deadline.
You have basic eligibility if you have completed an advanced level degree, or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits (hp), of which at least 60 hp at advanced level, or in another way within or outside the country acquired substantially equivalent knowledge.
For special eligibility, you must have satisfactory results in courses at advanced level of at least 60 hp, of which 15 hp must be a course in ecology or evolution, and at least 30 hp must be independent work within one of the areas of ecology or evolution or equivalent.
Selection
Selection among applicants is made with regard to the ability to benefit from education at research level. Criteria used to assess this ability are:
documented subject knowledge relevant to the research area
analytical and creative thinking
own initiative
independence
collaboration skills
ability to express yourself orally and in writing in English.
Beyond these general qualities, weight will be given to previous experience with GIS work and/or work with insects or spiders.
A driver's license is a requirement, as well as the ability to work in the field. Many field sites are located in pastures, which is why it is an important quality not to be afraid of cows.

About the Employment
We offer a fixed-term position as a doctoral student according to Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100). The employment period may not be longer than what corresponds to education at research level on a full-time basis for four years. As a doctoral student, you should primarily devote yourself to your own education at research level, but the employment may include work with education, research and administration to a limited extent (maximum 20%).
A new position as a doctoral student applies for a maximum of one year, after which the employment is renewed with a maximum of two years at a time.
