Örebro universitet seeks a PhD student for doctoral-level education leading to a PhD in Economics at the School of Business. The PhD student will be part of a research project conducted in collaboration with the research institutes Handelns Forskningsinstitut (HFI) and Ratio. About the Research Project The project aims to use empirical economic analysis to study how changes in the business environment, with a focus on crime and structural change, affect businesses and the labor market. Questions regarding employment, wage formation, labor mobility, business dynamics, productivity, and business growth and survival can be studied within the project. The research is largely based on extensive microdata from SCB with linked register information about individuals and businesses as well as other relevant entities. The project thus provides particularly good opportunities to study the interaction between businesses and individuals over time and between regions and sectors. The PhD student will be employed at Örebro universitet and be part of the research environment Economics and Statistics at the School of Business. The work is conducted in close collaboration with researchers at HFI and Ratio. The PhD student is expected to actively participate in joint research activities, seminars, and work meetings and, together with researchers at the three environments, develop research questions within the project's scope. Recurring activities in Stockholm will be part of the project. Since the PhD project is conducted in close collaboration with researchers at HFI and Ratio, the ability to develop and conduct research together with others will be an important part of the assessment. Education and PhD Employment The doctoral education consists of courses and independent research work presented in a doctoral thesis. The education comprises 240 higher education credits, corresponding to four years of full-time studies. The education position is linked to a full-time PhD student employment during the study period. Any institutional service and extension of employment are regulated according to applicable regulations and Örebro universitet's procedures. In the Rules Handbook (https://www.oru.se/globalassets/oru-sv/utbildning/utbildning-pa-forskarniva/regelhandbok-for-utbildning-pa-forskarniva.pdf) you can read more about PhD employment and part-time studies and employment. The starting salary for a PhD student position is 32,300 kr per month (salary period 2025/2026). The PhD student will be an integrated part of the research environment Economics and Statistics at Örebro universitet and at the same time be part of the research collaboration conducted together with HFI and Ratio.
