The Swedish Defence University is an internationally leading educational institution in defense, crisis management, and security. The Swedish Defence University trains Sweden's officers and leads the academic development of the officer profession. We conduct research in law with a focus on operational law and international humanitarian law, defense systems, war studies, leadership and management, military history, and political science. The Planning and Finance Department at the Swedish Defence University is now seeking a Controller with focus on governance and development. About the Workplace The Planning and Finance Department is part of operational support and coordinates the Swedish Defence University's cross-agency processes for planning, monitoring, reporting, environmental management, and handles the university's financial accounting. The Swedish Defence University manages various types of appropriations, has a large share of commissioned activities, and also receives grants. This means the university's financial matters are broad in scope. The department is divided into accounting, planning, and controller sections. The position is based in Stockholm. Key Responsibilities You will be part of the team that drives and develops the university's processes for budgeting, forecasting, and monitoring. As a controller, your duties include supporting the operations managers with these processes, as well as developing and documenting decision-making materials for the university's leadership and creating educational information materials related to the financial processes. Part of your work also involves development and internal training within the department's areas of responsibility. The work involves close collaboration with others within the department. You will also work closely with other departments within operational support as well as with managers and operational leaders in core activities, including the university's leadership. We are seeking someone with: Several years of current experience working as a controller. Experience writing decision-making materials, reports, or similar. Knowledge of finance-related regulations in the public sector. Strong digital skills and experience working with Microsoft 365 and other relevant digital systems and applications. Meritorious experience includes: Work with finances or operations management in higher education. Work at the central level in a government agency. Experience driving development projects or investigations. Experience working with Hypergene. Who Are You? You enjoy converting information into clear and educational materials and communicating information in a transparent manner. About the Position This is a permanent full-time position, beginning with a six-month probationary period. Employment at the Swedish Defence University may involve a security clearance for placement in a security class, which includes background checks and in some cases security interviews with the Swedish Security Service. The position may include war placement. If you are already placed in war organization in your current position at a government agency and your expertise is needed in the Swedish Defence University's war organization, negotiations will take place between the relevant agency and the Swedish Defence University regarding your placement.
