Assistant Principal
REGION GOTLAND · Full-time
Stenkumlaväg 35, Visby, Sweden
Södervärnskolan is a primary school serving grades 4-9 in southern Visby, with approximately 620 students. We have seven parallel classes in each grade level at the upper secondary stage and two parallel classes in each grade at the middle stage, as well as an extended after-school program where many students maintain their placement throughout the middle school years. The school has two specialized teaching groups. We work to create a safe and conducive learning environment, ensure high-quality instruction, promote school attendance, and strengthen students' reading skills. Students should leave school as knowledge-seekers and critical thinkers with strong self-confidence, humanistic values, and engagement. The school has student support staff on-site every day of the week and an established special education team. On the schoolyard there is a recreation shed where students find materials for various activities. We have a staffed school library, a café, and social pedagogues to create additional safety around our students. We have our own kitchen with excellent food. The school's operations are located in 4 different buildings on the same campus. Your Responsibilities As part of the school leadership, you will have an important role in leading, driving, and developing school operations. You are close to daily activities and actively contribute to implementing goals and decisions in practice, with a focus on quality, goal achievement, and a well-functioning operation. Together with school leadership, you share responsibility for creating good conditions for staff and operations. You contribute to trust-based leadership and a good work environment, including through employee conversations, salary discussions, and work on individual professional development plans. By being present, attentive, and engaged, you contribute to a work environment where staff are given the opportunity to develop and take responsibility. You also participate in school leadership's collaborative work on budgets, financial planning, and follow-up. Another important part of the role is to work with school leadership to create and develop good collaboration and dialogue with internal and external stakeholders and networks. As part of school leadership, you also contribute to the development of the department, administration, and Region Gotland as a whole. You get the opportunity to see operations from a broader perspective and contribute to development that extends beyond your own unit. In daily work, you, as part of school leadership, work to create engagement, drive development initiatives, and leverage staff expertise and ideas. The role involves both responsibility and opportunity to influence – but above all, to be part of a team that together creates operations with high quality and good conditions for learning and development. Together with the principal, you lead pedagogical development at the school. Leading the student support team for grades 4-6 and for one or both of our specialized teaching groups, as well as participating in the student support team for grades 7-9, will be part of your assignment. Also responsibility for the after-school program and its operations. You will be part of the school's Safety Team, which works with bullying, prevention, and promotion initiatives, both regarding systems and handling various cases. We would appreciate it if you became part of those responsible for scheduling at the school. Who Are You? We are looking for someone with a teaching degree with a focus on primary education and certification to teach at the middle and/or upper secondary levels. You have experience working as a teacher and experience leading others. You also have experience leading development work and good knowledge of school governing documents, as well as the ability to implement them in daily work. It is advantageous if you have principal training or other leadership training and experience in school leadership positions. We would also appreciate it if you have experience leading student support work, working with specialized teaching groups, or scheduling. We are looking for someone who is confident, stable, and clear in your leadership. You take responsibility for your tasks, work independently, methodically, and move work forward. You create engagement, participation, and direction and communicate clearly and attentively. You are development-oriented, see possibilities, and drive change forward with the operation's best interests in focus.
