Subject Description
Fundamental research in mathematics motivated by applications within one or more of the following areas: stochastic control, optimization under uncertainty, inverse problems, and numerical methods within these areas.
Duties
Research and teaching in the subject area. During employment as an Assistant Professor, the majority of time will be devoted to research, with the goal that the Assistant Professor will establish themselves as an independent researcher within the international research community. Teaching may include mathematics courses from basic to advanced level, as well as supervision of degree projects and doctoral students. Some administrative duties may also be included in the work tasks. The Assistant Professor is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within four years. If needed, a language plan will be established to support this in connection with employment.
The Assistant Professor will be given the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and gain qualifications that could provide eligibility for another teaching position with higher qualification requirements (see Section 4, Chapter 12 a of the Higher Education Ordinance). The Assistant Professor may apply for promotion to Associate Professor in accordance with Section 4, Chapter 12 c of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Qualifications
Eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor is one who has completed a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence. Primarily, the position should be considered for someone who has completed a doctoral degree or reached equivalent competence no more than seven years before the application deadline for the Assistant Professor position. However, someone who completed a doctoral degree or achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special grounds. Special grounds refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances.
Evaluation Criteria
As evaluation criteria for employment as an Assistant Professor at KTH, the evaluation criteria specified in Section 1.3 of KTH's Employment Regulations apply in relation to the established employment profile.
It is of paramount importance that the applicant has:
scientific excellence in the subject area demonstrated through publications in high-quality international journals, presentations and participation at conferences, and other commitments within the research community such as, for example, review or expert assignments.
potential for advancement to a higher academic position. This includes potential for independent development as a researcher and teacher within the current subject area and ability to establish, innovate, and develop the current research area.
It is of second-highest importance that the applicant has:
postdoctoral experience in a research environment different from the institution where the applicant completed their doctorate. Experience from research and development work in industry or other organizations is considered equivalent to a traditional postdoctoral position at another institution.
interest in and insights regarding pedagogical development within the current subject area.
interest in and insights regarding academic leadership, collaboration with the surrounding society, and awareness of diversity and equality issues with particular focus on gender equality.
It is also of importance that the applicant has:
administrative competence.
Special Evaluation Criteria for Promotion to Associate Professor
When reviewing applications for promotion to Associate Professor, the provisions in Section 1.2.4 of KTH's Employment Regulations will apply. The ability to teach in Swedish is a merit that will be given significant weight in applications for promotion.

Other Information
Fixed-term until: The employment is permanent, but for a maximum of six years, and may be renewed if, due to the teacher's sick leave, parental leave, or other special grounds, additional time is required to achieve the purpose of the employment. The total employment period may not, however, exceed eight years. The employment is part of KTH's Tenure Track system and the Assistant Professor will, after application, be reviewed for promotion to Associate Professor.
