During sleep, the body recovers, the brain processes information and memories are consolidated. Sleep disorders such as sleep apnea and insomnia can seriously affect quality of life and lead to long-term health problems such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Therefore, sleep research is important to understand the mechanisms behind sleep and develop effective treatments for sleep disorders, which can improve both individuals' health and society's productivity. The Center for Sleep Research at Sahlgrenska Academy has conducted translational research in the field for several decades and is seeking a biosignal engineer for advanced analysis of sleep, respiratory and cardiovascular biosignals. The group is multidisciplinary and works with epidemiological, mechanistic, diagnostic and therapeutic studies around clinically significant sleep and wakefulness disorders such as sleep apnea and insomnia. Duties As a Research Assistant, you will work with analyzing and quantifying long-term measurements of respiratory, cardiovascular and neurophysiological biosignals from sleep measurements. You will use new analysis methods in the form of machine learning and artificial intelligence for improved endotyping and phenotyping of the respiratory and cardiovascular system during different sleep stages. Advanced statistical models will be used to link these phenotypic characteristics to clinical outcomes in patients with sleep disorders. Qualifications A Master's degree in mathematics or biosignal analysis, or equivalent qualification, is required. The applicant must also have good knowledge of English in speech and writing. Merits include experience with biosignal analysis, particularly analysis of sleep parameters such as respiratory, cardiovascular and neurophysiological signals. Knowledge of R, Python or MATLAB, experience with statistical analysis, knowledge of medicine, and scientific publications are also merits. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. The applicant is expected to be structured and quality-conscious in their work as well as flexible and proactive, with good analytical ability and problem-solving skills.
