The Department of Information Technology holds a leading position in both research and education at all levels. The advertised position is located at the Vi3 Division at the Department of Information Technology and is part of the BioImage Informatics Unit (BIIF) within SciLifeLab's bioinformatics platform (National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden, NBIS). Within BIIF, we offer research support and courses in digital image processing and image analysis for applications in life science. BIIF is part of NBIS – 120 experts offering advanced bioinformatics support, infrastructure, and education to Swedish life science research – and part of Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) – a national center for molecular bioscience research focusing on health and environmental research. Our work environment is the Vi3 Division at the Department of Information Technology, which brings together a unique combination of expertise in computational image processing, human-computer interaction, and data science education. We have strong ties to NMI, National Microscopy Infrastructure, and are part of Euro-BioImaging. BIIF thus has good connections to infrastructure for both image acquisition and data analysis. Job Responsibilities We are seeking a bioinformatician with a strong interest in developing, implementing, and adapting image analysis tools for quantitative analysis of microscopy data. There is a strong focus on large-scale analysis based on machine learning, deep learning/AI, and handling and analysis of large 3D microscopy data. You will work on shorter and longer projects and provide research support to researchers in Sweden. The position also includes organizing user meetings and courses/workshops in digital image processing and image analysis with applications in life science. Required Qualifications You must have a doctoral degree in digital image analysis/image processing or equivalent, or alternatively in bioinformatics/biomedicine/biology or equivalent. Documented experience in programming and development of digital image analysis methods in the bioimage analysis field is required. This includes handling and analysis of large 3D microscopy data, experience applying, improving, and retraining deep learning methods (DL), and use of GPU-HPC clusters. Experience building tools and delivering them to researchers is required. Excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written, are required. Desirable/Meritorious Experience offering support in image analysis to other researchers is meritorious. Experience conducting workshops and supervising master's students is also meritorious.
