The Swedish Prison and Probation Service (Statens institutionsstyrelse, SiS) is a government agency responsible for individually adapted coercive care for youth with complex psychosocial issues and adults with substance abuse problems. SiS youth home Hässleholm is a secure institution with four treatment units, two intake and needs assessment units (MBB), and one open TFCO unit. We primarily receive school-age boys but also girls with ongoing criminal involvement and in some cases substance abuse issues. Job Description Do you want to help create life-changing impact for vulnerable people? Then the position as treatment assistant at SiS is a meaningful challenge. You work in a team with other treatment staff and an Operational Leader, and together you are responsible for ensuring that the young people living with us receive the safety, care, and treatment they need. Documentation is an important part of your work and contributes to legal certainty, planning, and follow-up of our operations. You contribute to maintaining security according to our procedures and help work toward continuous improvement at SiS. Our operations run 24/7, and as night staff you are responsible for the young people's wellbeing and safety, with a primary focus on promoting their sleep routines and being there for them when needed. Night is often the most difficult time of day, and sleep problems are very common among our youth, which is why a trustworthy adult who can offer support through conversation or other means is a very important piece of the puzzle. The work can vary greatly in intensity from very calm nights to nights that demand a lot from you as a treatment assistant. You always work awake nights on shifts scheduled between 21:00–08:00 on weekdays and 20:45–08:15 on weekends. You work according to a rotating schedule in a team with several other treatment assistants and educators. The current schedule is under review and there may be some changes to the times in the future. As night staff, your employment is 78.01%. This is a job for someone who sees a positive challenge in working with vulnerable people in a difficult life situation. The work is often demanding but also stimulating, joyful, and varied. The work may also include mentoring new employees. Qualifications To succeed in your work, you have a firmly grounded positive view of people. You are motivated to help people in vulnerable life situations and you share SiS values, of being a place for change. Furthermore, you have a good ability to create engagement and participation among our young people. As a person, you are confident in yourself and have an easy time building relationships with young people as well as with others in the staff team. You have good communication skills and can remain calm even in pressured situations. You work well with others and can handle conflicts constructively. You should also have: Diploma from a 2-year post-secondary education at a folk high school or vocational school (KY/YH) with a focus on social/educational treatment work or education from a university that we consider equivalent* The vocational school must be CSN-eligible to be approved for employment Category B driver's license Good Swedish in speech and writing Experience working with people in vulnerable life situations, e.g., work in youth care, psychiatry, or LSS care Experience with night work *Exceptions from the requirement for at least two years of post-secondary education may be made in individual cases if there are special grounds according to Chapter 5, Section 4 of the Social Services Act (2025:468). As a new employee, you will participate in a mandatory introduction week before starting work on the unit.
