We are now seeking a senior automation engineer who wants to take a key role in our industrial projects and contribute with both technical expertise and strong commitment to the industry of the future. As an Automation Engineer at AFRY, you will work on development, programming, and commissioning of control systems for industrial facilities. You are responsible for creating robust and efficient automation solutions in PLC and SCADA systems, with particular focus on platforms such as Siemens TIA Portal and ABB 800xA. The role encompasses the entire project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and system design to testing, commissioning, and optimization. You will be a central part of the project team and work closely with electrical engineers, project managers, and customers to ensure that solutions meet high requirements for functionality, quality, and operational reliability. The work may involve both large-scale development projects and shorter assignments in troubleshooting, optimization, and modernization of existing facilities. We are looking for someone who thrives taking responsibility and driving work forward. You are expected to contribute with technical leadership in projects, support colleagues with your experience, and ensure that automation solutions are delivered according to established goals, schedules, and customer requirements. Work is primarily conducted from AFRY's office in Kalmar or at customer sites, with the possibility of some remote work depending on the nature of the assignment. Qualifications To succeed in the role of automation engineer, you need to have a problem-solving approach where you can quickly identify causes of problems in complex control systems, analyze different solution alternatives, and choose the most effective way forward. You are business-minded and structured, which means you plan and organize your work with order in code and documentation, and ensure that the project follows agreed requirements, schedule, and budget. The role also requires you to be ambitious – you take responsibility for driving tasks forward, actively seek improvements, and keep yourself updated on new technology. Finally, it is important that you are a team player who collaborates closely with colleagues and customers, shares knowledge, and contributes to a good work environment. Requirements Experience in programming within industry (manufacturing/process/food) as well as commissioning and troubleshooting At least YH education in automation or equivalent experience System knowledge: Siemens TIA Portal and/or ABB 800xA Swedish and English at professional level in speech and writing Merits Knowledge of HMI/SCADA systems System knowledge: ABB SattLine, AVEVA System Platform, etc. Knowledge/experience of electrical engineering Additional Information Application deadline is 2026-09-30.
