The local police district Östra Norrbotten is part of the Norrbotten police district. Within the local police district, there are intervention and crime prevention activities, investigation groups, as well as support and service. We are seeking a detention officer who, in addition to work in the detention facility, will also have other duties. Duties The position is varied and dynamic where no two days are alike. You will become an important part of our internal and external service and will alternate between work in the detention facility and other central assignments within the agency. In the detention facility, you are responsible for receiving and handling detained persons, ranging from individuals held briefly to those detained in connection with criminal investigations. You will be their closest contact during their stay and will also perform simpler investigative measures and administrative tasks related to detention operations. In addition to work in the detention facility, depending on operational needs, you will participate in the Police Authority's external and internal service assignments: In the external assignment, you may work at the reception desk, where you are the agency's face to the public. You meet citizens, assist with passport and ID applications, support matters involving lost and found property, incident reporting, service of legal documents, and simpler investigative work. In internal services, your duties may vary between facility services, support with minor internal moves, mail and goods handling, as well as simpler work in our garage such as vehicle maintenance and basic servicing of agency vehicles. Work pace varies and the position can be physically and mentally demanding, which means you need to be in good general health. The role involves heavy lifting at certain times. Travel and work at other locations may occur. The position includes shift work, including night shifts and scheduled weekend service. Qualifications This is an opportunity for you who have: Complete upper secondary education or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way B-category driving license Good computer skills and ability to quickly learn new IT systems Very good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both spoken and written Good understanding of the English language and ability to express yourself well in English It is a merit if you also have: Current work experience working with detained persons, such as correctional services, detention officer, HVB/SiS facilities, security personnel, guards, or other experience that the employer considers relevant Completed the Swedish Police Authority's detention officer training with satisfactory results Current work experience working with and meeting people in vulnerable and/or problematic situations that the employer considers relevant Current and relevant work experience with practical vehicle work, such as service and maintenance, or alternatively current work experience in property maintenance or similar, that the employer considers relevant Current work experience in service work where you have met and provided service to customers, visitors, or other external parties, for example in reception, customer service, retail, or similar experience that the employer considers relevant Proficiency in additional languages that the employer considers relevant beyond Swedish and English, which you can use in your professional practice Personal Qualities As an employee, you are a public-facing representative and are expected to work with commitment, availability, and efficiency. The role is dynamic and involves handling different tasks simultaneously while meeting people in varying and sometimes challenging situations. You need to have a flexible work approach, be able to adapt and be unpretentious about which tasks need to be performed. In stressful situations, you can act in a stable and controlled manner. Collaboration is part of everyday work where you need to be able to cooperate in a group as well as with different functions within the agency. You need to be able to work independently and take responsibility for your tasks. You have an ability to relate to others in a considerate way and show understanding for others' situations.
