National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden (NBIS) is now seeking 1 additional systems developer. We are a national infrastructure whose purpose is to provide support for bioinformaticians and researchers in the life sciences. The systems development group consists of two scrum teams that develop tools for large-scale data management and web applications for research groups and EU-funded projects, all within the field of bioinformatics. You will be employed at Uppsala University, at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (ICM), and be connected to NBIS and Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab). Responsibilities As a systems developer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining a sharing platform for human genomic data from research projects, in collaboration with our partners in other European countries. The goal of these projects, such as Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI), is to help researchers share their data securely, thereby facilitating their collaborations around human health and medicine. The GDI project is about enabling secure access to genomic and clinical data within the EU to improve clinical diagnostics, treatments, and predictive medicine. Bigpicture is another European flagship project that aims to build a Petabyte platform for AI in digital pathology. Our collaboration partners come from academia as well as healthcare and industry. You will work closely with other developers in one of our scrum teams and contribute to the projects mentioned above. The scrum team is responsible for the full lifecycle of products, from planning and development to deployment and maintenance. You will be part of a team that values creativity and welcomes your input on all group decisions. Qualifications You must have at least a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, data science, systems science, or bioinformatics, or equivalent documented expertise in one or more of these areas. Further requirements: At least five years of documented experience in systems development with Golang and Kubernetes including Observability (e.g., OpenTelemetry, OpenTracing, Prometheus, Datadog) Helm and Hashicorp Vault or OpenBao At least five years of documented experience in Infrastructure as Code with Terraform and Ansible and one or more cloud providers (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) At least seven years of documented experience with virtualization solutions and software containers (e.g., Docker or Podman) At least seven years of experience with version control using Git and CI/CD (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Bitbucket Pipelines) and Bash At least seven years of experience with databases, e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB At least seven years of experience and strong understanding of message queues or event streams (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka) At least seven years of experience working agile according to scrum Flexibility in expressing yourself in both English and Swedish, both verbally and in writing. Great weight will be placed on personal suitability; the applicant should have excellent collaboration skills, initiative, and good communication qualities. Desirable/Merits The following are considered merits: Experience working in geographically distributed teams with communication and coordination via electronic tools such as video meetings and similar. Experience working with information security is highly meriting Experience in teaching and mentoring Good understanding of authentication and authorization mechanisms (e.g., OAuth, JWT) Knowledge of bioinformatics, particularly experience with tools and methods for analyzing human genomic data is especially sought. Experience with scrum roles (scrum master, product owner). Experience with project management tools, e.g., Zenhub, Jira. Experience working with infrastructure systems for sensitive data, especially in the public sector or academia.
