Automation Engineer for Industry-Adjacent IT
We're building the next generation of IT for industry—solutions that control, measure, and improve production at real manufacturers. We're looking for a driven automation engineer who wants to bring hands-on knowledge from the shop floor and connect it with modern software. This is a role for someone who values breadth over specialization. You don't need to be the deepest expert in a single PLC platform. We're looking for someone who sees the whole chain, from machines and control systems all the way up to data, integration, and decision support. And most importantly: you love developing solutions close to and together with the customer, not in isolation based on a fixed spec. Automation is an area we want to build and grow, and here you'll get a central and driving role. That means significant responsibility on your own, but also a great opportunity to shape how we work with automation, which solutions we invest in, and where our offerings go. You'll get to lay the foundation, not maintain something already set. WHAT YOU'LL DO Understand customer production and operations, and shape solutions together with them that actually make a difference Work broadly across the entire stack, from PLC, SCADA, and OPC out in the machines to integration, data, and modern IT solutions Connect OT and IT, help industrial systems communicate with each other (for example UNS and MQTT) Drive projects all the way through, from idea and design to commissioning and follow-up with the customer Use AI tools to work faster and smarter without compromising quality or security Be a trusted partner for the customer, someone they want to keep around and call again Share your knowledge with the team and learn new things in return WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR We care more about who you are than the exact systems you've worked with before. Your curiosity, drive, and willingness to learn carry at least as much weight as what's on your CV. Experience with industrial automation: PLC, SCADA, OPC, or similar in real production environments Breadth over depth—you're comfortable moving between different technologies and disciplines rather than digging deep into just one Genuine interest in the customer; you listen, understand their business, and develop solutions together with them Independence; you can drive a project and take responsibility all the way through Willingness to broaden your skills and connect the classic automation world with modern IT and AI Strong communication skills and enthusiasm for working in a team ADDED VALUE We're looking for a broad profile, so the more areas below you have experience in, in one way or another, the better. We don't expect anyone to master everything. If you have depth in some areas and curiosity about the rest, that's exactly the right fit. Control systems: PLC programming, mainly Siemens but other brands welcome, ABB control systems, HMI development and commissioning, motor drives, servo and frequency converters, troubleshooting in live operation Robotics and machine vision: robots from ABB or Omron, vision systems Electrical and hardware: electrical schematics, building and wiring electrical cabinets, sensors and transducers, pneumatics and hydraulics Industrial communication: PROFINET, PROFIBUS, IO-Link, RS-232, RS-485, socket and TCP/IP, OPC UA, MQTT, UNS philosophy OT equipment: scales, scanners and other production-related equipment, IoT devices and edge servers IT and software: C# or Python, Docker and Linux, time-series data and decentralized systems, SCADA and IIoT platforms like Ignition, MES and manufacturing technology, AI tools in your daily work And most of all: a general broad technical interest and genuine enthusiasm for learning new things. WHAT WE OFFER Technical leadership and mentoring. Those leading the team have built teams and products themselves, and invest time in your growth A broad role where you work across the entire chain, from machines to modern IT Close customer contact and significant personal responsibility A small, cohesive team with short decision paths and no ego A modern, AI-driven approach throughout our delivery A chance to build our automation foundation from the ground up and shape it your way Time and space for learning and development You work close to customers and their production, and what you deliver goes into live operation and is actually used. The path from idea to finished solution is short. If you like solving real problems together with people, we think you'll thrive with us. ABOUT REALPROUT RealProIT builds production-adjacent IT for industry: support systems, integrations, and modern platforms that make manufacturing smarter. We're part of RealCognit Group and a small, fast-moving company where every person makes a real difference. We're located in Örebro and Västerås. We're a group with many interests, from sports and creative pursuits to really good code, and we value balance and life outside work. With us you'll combine the reality of automation with modern software development, and be part of building something from the ground up. OTHER INFORMATION We recruit on an ongoing basis and interview as applications come in, so don't delay your application. Our goal is to get the right person started as soon as possible.
