About Smålandshamnar
Smålandshamnar is an important logistics hub in the region and plays a crucial role in the flow between sea, road, and industry. We work closely with shipping companies, transport operators, and industrial players, handling large cargo volumes with high demands for quality, delivery precision, and safety.
Our workshop is a key function in our operations. Here we are responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of extensive machinery used in daily cargo handling and terminal operations. A well-functioning workshop is essential for the port to deliver on its commitments.
With us you will encounter professional pride, strong teamwork, and a clear willingness to develop, both technically and organizationally. Safety is always the top priority, and the work is characterized by structure, collaboration, and shared responsibility for a safe and efficient port environment.
About the Job
As a workshop mechanic, you are responsible for keeping machines and equipment in good technical condition. The work takes place both in the workshop and out in the port area, depending on the nature of the assignment.
Examples of equipment you will work with:
Cranes and lifting equipment
Trucks and terminal tractors
Loading machines
Trailers, wagons, and other port-related equipment
The work includes both planned maintenance and emergency response to operational disruptions. You work closely with operations and cargo handling personnel and play an important role in day-to-day collaboration in the port.
Safety
Safety is a fundamental part of the work. You are expected to work in a structured manner, follow procedures, and contribute to a safe work environment for yourself and others. A thoughtful approach to safety is crucial in this role.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is driven and takes responsibility, with a curious attitude toward technology and problem-solving. You are practically minded and enjoy working with your hands, while also having the ability to analyze and find solutions when something is not working as it should. Attention to detail and a clear focus on safety are natural parts of your work style, especially in an environment where large machinery and heavy equipment are used daily. You take initiative when needed, but also enjoy collaborating with other professions and contributing to shared responsibility for the operation.
Qualifications
For this position, you need a technical interest and curiosity to understand how machines and systems work. You have a background in mechanics and a high school diploma, preferably with a technical or practical focus. You have basic knowledge of mechanics and an understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electronics, which enables you to work with troubleshooting, service, and repair of various types of machinery and equipment.
Meritorious Experience
It is an advantage if you have experience from port, industrial, or cargo handling operations, or if you have previously worked with construction machinery or other heavy work machines. Practical experience with troubleshooting and repairs is highly valued, as is holding a C driving license. Welding skills are also seen as an advantage for this role.
