Would you like to take on the challenge of leading and developing the university administration at one of Sweden's largest and most prominent universities? As University Director, you will have a central role in Stockholm University's continued development, with responsibility for strengthening the collaboration between administration and academic core activities and creating the best possible conditions for research and education. Stockholm University is one of Sweden's largest universities. With over 30,000 full-time students, approximately 1,300 doctoral candidates, and 5,400 employees, the university conducts strong education and research in humanities and natural sciences and maintains broad collaboration nationally and internationally. Stockholm University is now seeking a University Director to serve as head of the university administration. The university administration's mission is to provide well-developed and efficient operational support to the entire university: departments, subject area and faculty committees, the rector, and the university board. The administration consists of 11 departments, each led by a department head. On behalf of the rector and other university leadership, the administration's various divisions work in close collaboration to create and develop the best possible conditions for the university's research and education. An important task is also to ensure legal certainty, transparency, and efficient resource utilization to meet the requirements placed on the university as a public authority. More information about the university administration is available here: Universitetsförvaltningen Duties As University Director, you lead, coordinate, and develop Stockholm University's administration. You are head of the university administration, manage operations through the administration's department heads, and report to the rector. You are part of the university leadership and work closely with the rector, pro-rectors, and vice-rectors on matters concerning the university's overall leadership, governance, and development. The university administration's 11 departments comprise approximately 680 full-time equivalent positions. A central part of your role is to further develop the collaboration between the university administration and the university's core activities. Stockholm University is characterized by far-reaching delegation of decisions and a decentralized organization with a strong collegial culture, which places high demands on responsiveness, anchorage, and understanding of the different conditions of the various operations. At the same time, the University Director must ensure legal certainty, efficiency, and responsible resource utilization. The university administration is well-functioning, and the role is largely about building on existing strengths. An important focus will be to develop collaboration between the administration's different divisions, strengthen common working methods, and ensure that expertise and resources are utilized across organizational boundaries. The university operates in an increasingly demanding environment, with changed financing conditions, high facility costs, and increased requirements in areas such as information security, data management, and AI. This requires clear priorities, appropriate working methods, and a well-balanced approach between support, governance, and administrative burden. Qualifications The position requires an academic degree, preferably a doctorate, and proven experience of qualified management and leadership with supervisory responsibility for other managers within a large and complex organization. You also have experience in leading and collaborating in organizations with extensive service functions. Proven experience of qualified leadership within the higher education sector is meritorious. Furthermore, the University Director should have experience working within the higher education sector and thus experience and knowledge regarding: Conditions for research and educational activities at a larger university or college. Objectives, strategies, and governance in public administration, particularly within research and education, and the organization of the higher education sector. Overall financial planning, resource allocation, and follow-up. Experience in development work and strong ability to, from a comprehensive perspective, analyze needs, prioritize, and lead and delegate. As a person, you are confident, judicious, and solution-oriented, with the ability to handle complex issues from a holistic perspective. You remain steady under pressure and act with high integrity and respect for the university's mission, regulations, and collegial culture. Your leadership is characterized by openness, transparency, and courage to address even difficult issues. At the same time, you are responsive and unpretentious, utilize others' expertise, and are receptive to different perspectives. You build trusting relationships and networks, are visible and accessible, and move with confidence among the university's different divisions and external contexts. Personal suitability is given significant weight. About the Position The employment is for an indefinite period on a full-time basis. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting.
