Operating Department 2 at Norrland University Hospital is part of the Center for Anesthesia, Surgery, and Intensive Care Västerbotten. Operating Department 2 provides acute and planned regional surgical care and anesthesia in the areas of neurosurgery, otolaryngology, vascular access, obstetrics, hand and plastic surgery, ophthalmology, pediatrics, dentistry, and radiology. We work in close collaboration with operating clinics. Operating Department 2 in Umeå is now recruiting nursing assistants. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES As a nursing assistant with us, you contribute knowledge and commitment that make people feel secure. As a nursing assistant in the operating room, you work in a team with the surgical nurse, anesthesia nurse, anesthesiologist, and surgeon. Through high competence levels among staff—medical, nursing, and technical—we provide the patient with the best possible care. As a nursing assistant, you share significant responsibility with the operating room team and play an important role in ensuring safe patient surgery. The logistics around operations place high demands on staff competence. As a nursing assistant, you are part of the team surrounding the patient's care during surgery and have a meaningful role in collaboration with your colleagues on the operating team. You assist the anesthesia nurse and surgical nurse during the operation. You help prepare and set up the operating room before each surgery, receive patients with the anesthesia nurse, and participate in anesthesia induction and awakening. During the operation, you are the surgical nurse's right hand. Your duties also include handling medical technical equipment. After the operation is completed, you participate in awakening and cleaning/preparing the room. The role also includes student supervision, as Norrland University Hospital is a teaching hospital. Working as a nursing assistant is a varied and educational profession where the work pace can shift from calm situations to more acute ones. You will receive orientation during the initial period until you become independent, which typically takes about one year depending on whether you have experience from the operating room or not. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for you who are a trained nursing assistant with qualifications in acute care and preferably with a specialist course in surgery, anesthesia, and intensive care. Since nursing assistant has been a protected title as of July 1, 2023, you must provide a certificate from the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen). Experience working in the operating room and in other acute care is a merit. You have good technical foundational understanding and see it as an exciting challenge to make use of our technical equipment. As a person, we believe you have good collaboration skills, are flexible in thinking and action, and have the ability to make quick decisions. You have a drive to contribute to the development of the operation. We also see that you actively contribute to a good work environment and promote safety, learning, respect, and a professional approach. Employment type: Permanent position.
