Those of us who work here have extensive experience with personal assistance both privately and professionally. As a personal assistant with us, you will be a key person in someone's life. I live in my own apartment in central Falun and lead a good and meaningful life with the support of my personal assistants. I have MS and have also had a stroke, which means I need help and supervision throughout the day.
Now I'm looking for temporary assistants who want to become part of my assistance team and step in during, for example, illness, vacation, and other absences.
Who am I?
I like having people around me and enjoy things happening during the day – but sometimes I also need help remembering not to do everything at once. I especially enjoy walks and getting out, shopping, coffee breaks, games and other activities, watching TV, watching clips on the iPad, spending time with family and friends. My Sunday visits to church are important to me.
I enjoy conversation and need assistants who talk with me, not just work around me. Humor, warmth, and a genuine interest in other people go a long way with me.
What does the work involve?
As my personal assistant, you are with me as support throughout my entire day. The work includes personal hygiene, toilet visits, showering and getting dressed, meals, medication routines, exercise, transfers, and help around the home. I use a wheelchair and assistive devices for transfers and need assistance with all transfers. I exercise regularly and do, among other things, walking training together with my assistants.
You also help me do the things I enjoy – joining me on walks, errands, visits, church, or other activities.
Sometimes I need a bit of extra time to understand a situation, make a decision, or remember what we've talked about. Therefore, you need to be calm, clear, and patient, even when things take a little longer.
Who am I looking for?
I believe you'd be a good fit with me if you're a person who is:
Warm and attentive - you're aware of my signals and notice when I need help, even when I don't ask directly.
Calm and reassuring - you don't rush through tasks but let me do what I can myself and give me the time I need.
Social and communicative - you enjoy talking, joking, and creating a pleasant everyday life together.
Responsible - you understand that personal assistance also involves great responsibility regarding medications, transfers, exercise, and supervision.
Proactive – yet responsive
You can suggest activities and encourage me to do things that make me feel good, while sensing when I need to rest.
For me, it's important that you see me as a person first and my disability second.
Previous experience in personal assistance or care is of course a plus, but the right personality, commitment, and willingness to learn are just as important. You'll receive introduction and support to feel confident in the work.
As a temporary assistant, you'll become an important part of the team and need to be able to step in when regular assistants are on leave or absent. For me, personal assistance isn't just about helping with practical tasks. It's just as much about creating safety, inclusion, relationships, and a good life – every day.
