We are seeking an academic advisor for a temporary position at the Department of Science and Technology. About Us The Department of Science and Technology at Örebro University is a place where world-class education and research in technical and scientific subjects meet. We offer education in twelve different programs and conduct outstanding research in most of the department's fields. The department currently has approximately 200 employees. The department is served by an efficient and professional administration with ten staff members. In addition to academic advisors, the unit includes several education and research administrators. As one of our academic advisors is on leave for another position, we are now seeking an experienced academic advisor from the higher education sector for a temporary assignment. Duties Your work will focus on academic advising of students as well as administration and case handling. Examples of duties include advisory conversations with individual students and with student groups. You will work with recruitment and orientation of students as well as provide information about and present the department's educational programs. As an academic advisor, you will also support the department and its units, among other things in course and program development. As an academic advisor, you will work closely with your colleagues within the unit, teachers, managers, course and program coordinators within the department. Throughout the year, various events and activities are held within the department that you will participate in. Examples include activities directed toward prospective students and the annual graduation ceremony. Qualifications To thrive and succeed in this assignment, you need to have an interest in education and research. You need the willingness and ability to plan, develop working methods and approaches, and sometimes take the lead and be driving in various development projects and events. You need to be able to handle multiple tasks in parallel and work solution-focused with problems you encounter. You have the ability to work independently while also being service-oriented and able to communicate and collaborate in a trustworthy manner with different groups – students, teachers, colleagues – often in time-pressured situations. Since the department is an international environment, it is required that we all have very good ability to express ourselves in speech and writing in both Swedish and English. We are looking for someone who has: - an academic degree assessed as relevant for the position - very good knowledge of Swedish and English in both speech and writing - work experience in academic advising within the higher education sector - good experience and interest in working with various administrative IT systems It is advantageous if you have: - good knowledge within the department's educational subjects - experience leading and driving development projects - knowledge of the regulations governing higher education - experience with records management - experience working with websites Great weight is placed on your personal qualities.
