Student Assistant

Internationella Engelska Skolan Sigtuna is seeking a calm, reliable, and engaged student assistant to provide individual support to a student with significant behavioral and academic support needs.
This is an important role for someone who understands that successful student support begins with building a strong and trusting relationship, combined with clear boundaries, predictable routines, and high expectations.
About the Role
You will work closely with a student throughout the school day, supporting them in participating in instruction, managing transitions and various situations during the school day, and gradually developing greater independence.
The role requires patience, consistency, and perseverance. There may be situations where the student struggles to regulate their behavior, refuses to participate in instruction, or requires extensive adult support. You must therefore be able to remain calm, maintain professionalism, and work solution-focused even in challenging situations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide consistent individual support throughout the school day.
- Support the student in arriving at and participating in instruction.
- Help the student organize and complete schoolwork.
- Support the student during transitions between lessons and activities.
- Notice early signs of anxiety, frustration, or difficulties with self-regulation and use agreed-upon strategies.
- Work with clear expectations, routines, and boundaries.
- Support the student's development toward increased independence.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, student welfare services, and school leadership.
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking someone who is warm yet clear, patient yet persistent, and who can remain calm even when situations become challenging.
Experience working with children or youth with behavioral, social, emotional, or special support needs is highly desirable. Experience in schools, special education settings, treatment work, or youth programs is an advantage.
Knowledge of and experience working with children and youth with neuropsychiatric conditions (NPF), particularly autism, is desirable. We would appreciate candidates who understand how clear structure, predictability, adapted communication, and a low-key approach can be used to create security and optimal conditions for learning and participation.
You must be reliable and consistent, have strong relationship-building skills, and feel confident managing challenging behaviors. You must also be able to work independently while being part of a larger team.
Strong Swedish language skills, both spoken and written, are required. Since English is one of the school's primary working languages, you must also be able to understand and communicate in English in daily work.
