Then this might be the job for you. We are now seeking a special education teacher with primary placement in the individual program (IND) within the adapted upper secondary school. With us you will meet students with different strengths, circumstances, and needs. Some students have extensive needs for adaptations and support and may, for example, lack spoken language or have other disabilities that affect communication, learning, and the possibility of participation. This means that instruction cannot always look like it traditionally does in a classroom. For us, the task is therefore to find the way forward to each student. Communication can occur through speech – but also through, for example, pictures, signs, symbols, concrete objects, digital tools, or other forms of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC). Your Assignment As a special education teacher, you have a central role in creating conditions for students' learning, communication, participation, and development. You work both directly with students and together with other professionals to develop instruction and the learning environment around them. Your work includes, among other things: planning, implementing, and following up on individually adapted instruction teaching students within the individual program's subject areas based on their individual circumstances and goals mapping and analyzing students' strengths, knowledge, communication methods, and needs developing teaching strategies and materials for students with extensive needs for support and adaptations working with AAC and other alternative communication methods based on the individual student's circumstances creating structure, clarity, and predictability in instruction working to develop students' communication, participation, and independence documenting and tracking students' progression – even when development occurs in small but meaningful steps guiding and supporting teachers and resource educators/student assistants in special education matters and approaches cooperating with student services, guardians, and other professionals regarding the student actively contributing to the development of instruction and accessible learning environments in the individual program. Who Are We Looking For? We are primarily seeking someone who is trained as a special education teacher, preferably with specialization in intellectual disability. Experience from adapted primary or upper secondary school and work with students with extensive support needs is a merit. We view positively knowledge and experience in, for example, AAC, TAKK, clarifying pedagogy, communication support, and work with students who lack or have limited spoken language. For us, it is also important how you use your expertise in meeting the student. You need to have the ability to see possibilities for development even when progress does not follow an obvious path. As a person, you are secure, stable, and patient. You are curious about what lies behind a student's way of communicating and acting and have the ability to change your own approach when what you first try doesn't work. You also need to be relationship-building, clear, and solution-focused. Work in the individual program is based on close collaboration between teachers, special education teachers, resource educators, student services, and other professionals. It is therefore important that you can both work independently and contribute your expertise to the joint work around the student. An Assignment Where Development Takes Different Paths In the individual program, progress can look very different. For one student, it may involve developing a new way to communicate a need. For another, it may be about managing a task more independently, participating in an activity, or making oneself understood by one's surroundings. This places high demands on pedagogical creativity, perseverance, and the ability to see and build on each student's abilities.
