The Clinic for Anesthesia, Surgery and Intensive Care operates at NUS in Umeå. Within the clinic, acute and planned surgical care, anesthesia, postoperative care, intensive care for children and adults, and sterile processing services are provided at the regional level. The clinic is also responsible for air ambulance intensive care in the northern region, Swedish Air Ambulance nurses at the Umeå base, as well as conducting research, development, and education.
Swedish Air Ambulance (KSA) launched a new national air ambulance operation in November 2021, in collaboration with Region Västerbotten. The purpose of the operation is to improve efficiency of air ambulance services to increase patient benefit and safety through coordination of shared resources. The operation provides 24/7 air ambulance services year-round for the entire country. The aircraft are specially adapted for air ambulance care and are stationed at three bases: Arlanda, Landvetter, and Umeå.

RESPONSIBILITIES
As a specialist nurse with us, you will contribute your knowledge and commitment to help people feel secure.
You will work half-time for the flight operation and be clinically active at least 25% in anesthesia and/or intensive care at NUS or alternatively at another hospital in one of Sweden's regions, preferably with frequent care of patients with sepsis, head injuries, acute heart disease, neurological disorders, or extensive traumatic injuries.
You will work under the medical direction of the healthcare provider Region Västerbotten. Your daily tasks as a nurse involve collaborating with the coordination center to plan daily schedules and manage transport of standard patients in air ambulances, both children and adults. You work with pilots, other medical teams, and ambulance personnel. You are the face of Swedish Air Ambulance to patients, regions, and other stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone with specialist training in anesthesia and/or intensive care and at least three years of professional experience within your specialty. In addition, you will receive training in aviation medicine with special focus on transport of critically ill and injured patients. You will also undergo flight operations-related training. Previous experience working in air ambulance or air ambulance helicopter services, as well as training in aviation medicine, are advantageous.
Working as an air ambulance nurse means you work closely with the flight crew. On the majority of flights, you will be the only nurse on board and therefore need to work independently and solution-oriented. At the same time, you recognize the importance of good teamwork, you are flexible as circumstances change rapidly, and you have the ability to make decisions in high-pressure situations.
To succeed in this role, you must have good physical health, have normal vision, possess a class B driver's license, show a clean background check, and have a passport issued in the EU without restrictions. You must be fluent in Swedish or Scandinavian languages and speak English well enough to use it in your work.
You will have dual duty stations, one at the hospital and one at the air base.
