Maskrosbarn is establishing itself in Umeå and we are now looking for a social worker for our new office! About Us Maskrosbarn is a children's rights organization that supports children who have parents with substance abuse, mental illness, or who expose them to violence. Over the years, we have met thousands of children and on their behalf, Maskrosbarn also conducts knowledge-raising work to help more people see and discover children who are suffering at home, as well as advocacy work to improve laws, processes, and systems that affect children's opportunities for a better life. We collaborate with municipalities, regions, authorities, and other actors throughout Sweden. We have approximately 40 employees in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö, and around 250 dedicated volunteers across the country. About the Position Maskrosbarn's activities in Umeå are planned to begin in spring 2027 with four full-time employees, and later also volunteers/part-time staff. The local activities will mirror the support services in other cities and will offer three support programs: a youth center every Thursday evening, support counseling with a counselor, and child advocacy. In the social worker role in Umeå, you will serve as a child advocate for our young people who need help with contact with authorities. In child advocacy work, you will, for example, write concern reports, accompany young people to meetings with social services, appeal decisions, and work motivationally and informatively with young people about their rights and processes within social services. You will conduct therapeutic conversations with local young people and you will participate in working every Thursday evening at our youth center "Thursday Cozy." The youth center Thursday Cozy takes place every Thursday evening between 4:30 PM–8:00 PM. Thursday Cozy is the heart of the activity and is an important and appreciated support for the young people. Thursdays are a safe place for young people to be, eat dinner together, and gain new experiences. Working at a small office in startup mode means that all employees need to be unpretentious and step in where needed; for example, you may need to present Maskrosbarn to both young people in our target group and to professionals/adults who work with the target group. This is a permanent position, full-time from January 2027. A probationary period may apply. Who Are You? As a social worker seeking this role at Maskrosbarn, you are warm, open, and genuine in your interactions with young people and colleagues. You are committed to children's rights, have good knowledge of social services, the Social Services Act, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and enjoy having a varied job where you work with young people both in groups and individually. You need to be able to switch between different roles and adapt your support and approach based on the support context you are in. You: Have a social work degree Have work experience from social services, within child and family services, or similar that we consider equivalent Have documented experience working with young people Can express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish Identify yourself as a Maskrosbarn child; you have grown up with a parent who has a substance abuse problem, mental health issues, or who has exposed you to violence. This is a requirement in this role as identification between young people and staff is part of our method. As a person, we want you to: Be relationship-building in your approach, have an ease in building trust with young people Be self-driven, structured, and able to plan and prioritize your time well Have the ability to hold young people's difficult emotions Enjoy working with young people Find it exciting to be part of starting up an activity from the beginning and thrive in a work climate where everyone helps each other Want to be part of a family-oriented non-profit organization Be flexible, as the work involves some travel and evening work on Thursdays, among other things We value diversity and encourage applicants with different backgrounds and experiences. Application Welcome to submit your application through our recruitment system no later than September 27, 2026. We would like you to attach a CV and a personal letter where you answer the questions below: Why are you particularly suited for this position? What relevant experience do you have for this role? Why are you a Maskrosbarn child? Interview 1 will take place in week 41, October 6–8 in Umeå. If you advance in the process, interview 2 will be conducted in week 43, October 20–22 in Umeå. Upon employment, a criminal record check from the Police is required (work with children in activities other than school). Questions? Feel free to contact us by email: Denise Madsen, Support Manager, [email protected] Maria Pihlgren, Support Group Manager, [email protected]
