The Social Services Department's operations encompass both statutory authority functions and the delivery of services within elder care, disability services, family and individual care, as well as healthcare. The department provides and works with various forms of care and support so that all residents can live as influential, independent, and good a life as possible. Our goal is to work toward positive changes in people's lives through assistance, advice, and other interventions, and to contribute to the individual's independence. The Social Services Department comprises nearly 500 monthly employees and additional hourly workers. Duties and Responsibilities As social director in Vaggeryds kommun, you will lead the development of the Social Services Department on behalf of the Social Services Board, serving as the link between political will, the department's professional expertise, and residents' needs. The assignment involves translating political goals into strategic direction, operational development, and concrete results for the municipality's residents. The social director is the department head with overall responsibility for operations, finance, quality, work environment, and personnel. The assignment involves leading a politically governed organization based on trust-based leadership where responsibility, collaboration, and professional knowledge are utilized to create value for the municipality's residents. As social director, you hold a central role in the municipality's strategic development and contribute to the entire municipality's development in an economically, socially, and organizationally sustainable manner. The Social Services Department faces extensive development and transformation work. The assignment includes leading the department's work with, among other things, new social services legislation, the development of Nearby Care, the future of elder care, the functional support sector's shift to meet new target groups, and the development of preventive work with children and youth. Areas such as skills provision, digitalization, information security, and the development of a long-term sustainable welfare system are also coming focus areas. As social director, you are part of the municipality's management team and collaborate closely with elected officials, municipal leadership, the region, authorities, business, civil society, and other community actors to develop welfare based on residents' needs. Qualifications We are seeking a stable leader with several years of experience leading through other managers. You have strong knowledge of the department's areas, conditions, and future challenges, as well as experience working as a manager in a politically governed organization. We want you to have university or college education in social work or other education deemed equivalent. We also view positively experience with or education in change management. To be successful in this role, you must have good judgment and be comfortable handling public presentations and media. As a manager, you naturally take a holistic approach and see beyond the department's boundaries, keeping focus on what is best for the citizen. You have a strategic perspective and foster participation by utilizing each profession within the department. Since the role involves being a key person with many collaboration interfaces, we believe it is important that you enjoy building relationships and working with others. This also requires that your communication skills are strong, as the role demands adapted communication for the different target groups you meet. Since travel is common in this role, you must have a category B driver's license. Other Information This recruitment process includes interviews and reference checks.
