The Preschool and Primary Education Department is one of Varbergs kommun's largest departments with close to 2,200 employees. Within our operational areas of preschool, primary education, and child and student health, we are here for children and students – together we shape the future.
Hagaskolan is centrally located in Varberg within walking distance to the train station. The school accommodates 500 students in grades F-9. The school offers a varied outdoor environment that enables play and movement.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a school counselor with us, you have a meaningful assignment to contribute with psychosocial expertise to the school's student health team (EHT). Together with other school staff, you work to create the best possible conditions for learning by promoting health and prevention for a good learning and living environment.
In your role you will:
- Actively participate in the school's student health team, contribute with psychosocial expertise, and provide consultation in student matters.
- Plan and implement preventive measures, both school-wide and in individual classes, through assessments, investigations, and group-strengthening activities.
- Meet with students and guardians through motivational and supportive conversations.
- Drive the school's values-based work for equal treatment and actively work against harassment.
- Participate in establishing and revising the school's steering documents, such as anti-harassment plans and crisis plans.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who is confident in their professional role and has the ability to build professional relationships with students and guardians. You see collaboration with colleagues as a natural part of the work and contribute with your psychosocial perspective to support student health and learning.
You have good pedagogical intuition when meeting with students and can adapt your communication style based on the individual's needs and situation. Since the role involves significant responsibility for student safety, we place great emphasis on personal suitability and sound judgment.
To thrive and succeed in this assignment, you have:
- A degree in social work (or other education that provides eligibility according to the School Act).
- Work experience from social services or other authority work with children and young people.
- Good knowledge of applicable legislation, particularly regarding confidentiality and reporting obligations.
- Clear planning ability to structure your work, conduct investigations, and document according to applicable requirements.
- Good collaboration skills and experience working solution-oriented together with different professions.
Salary form: Monthly salary.
Employment form: Fixed-term employment.
Duration: 6 months or longer, start date: 2027-01-07 Start date by agreement, ends: 2027-12-17.
