School Librarian for Västerfärnebo, Kilbo, and Möklinta Schools
Sala kommun · Vollzeit
Sala, Schweden
School Librarian for Sala For several years, Sala Municipality has invested in strengthening and developing school libraries and digitalization within primary education. We are proud to say that school libraries are a well-pedagogically grounded activity that strengthens students' learning, their language and knowledge development, and digital competence, with a focus on quality, equity, and long-term sustainability. The school librarian is employed under the principal but works closely with school librarian colleagues and a coordinator. We are now seeking a school librarian for grades F-6 at Kilbo, Västerfärnebo, and Möklinta schools. The schools have between 60 and 85 students each. Möklinta is located in the northern parts of Sala Municipality, while Västerfärnebo and Kilbo are in the western parts of the municipality. All three are small, welcoming schools with a pleasant, homey atmosphere. Möklinta is a newly built school, while the other two are housed in older facilities. In Västerfärnebo, the library also serves as the community's public library. Job Responsibilities As a school librarian, you will work to make the school library an accessible and integrated part of the school's educational activities. In close collaboration with teachers and other professionals, you will plan and conduct classroom-based instruction in the form of lessons that contribute to increased goal achievement according to the curriculum objectives. A central part of the role is to strengthen the school's reading culture, promote students' reading motivation, and build students' media and information literacy. You are responsible for developing and making the school library's media collection accessible based on the needs of the school and students, and for highlighting the school library's role and opportunities in teaching. Through an inclusive and relationship-building approach, you will meet students with different backgrounds and needs. The role also includes collaborating with the school's various professional groups and contributing to the development and follow-up of school library activities as part of the school's systematic quality work, with a focus on quality, equity, and long-term development. Qualifications We are primarily seeking someone with a degree in library and information science. Secondary qualifications include other relevant higher education. You have knowledge of and a genuine interest in reading promotion, language and knowledge development, media and information literacy (MIK), and the school library's pedagogical mission. To thrive in the role, you need good pedagogical skills and enjoy working with children and young people. You are relationship-focused and collaborate well with both students and colleagues. You work both independently and with others, and have the ability to balance long-term development with managing daily needs and challenges. Since Sala Municipality is geographically large with schools located both in urban and rural areas, a Class B driver's license is required. Access to your own vehicle is essential as the schools are located in rural areas with limited public transportation options. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
