Would you like to lead a small, personal, and engaged preschool where you truly get the opportunity to see each child and colleague?
Our wonderful director is retiring after 20 years at Kabinen, and we are now looking for our next trustworthy, engaged, and present director.
We are starting the recruitment process early because we want to find the right person and provide a proper transition. The planned start date is May/June 2027.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Position: Director
Scope: 90–94 %
Duration: Permanent
Planned start date: May/June 2027
Location: Fredhäll, Kungsholmen
The position combines director responsibility with work in the educational activities. This means that as director, you will be a present part of the work team and spend most of the day with the child groups. Office time and time for the administrative aspects of the director role are primarily scheduled for the mornings.
You will lead and develop the preschool based on the curriculum, policy documents, and the best interests of the children, while being a present part of the work team.
As director, you are responsible for pedagogical leadership, personnel matters, systematic quality work, planning, and administration. You work closely with both colleagues and the preschool's board, which consists of guardians, and contribute to long-term development of the activities.
ABOUT KABINEN
Kabinen is a small parent cooperative preschool in Fredhäll on Kungsholmen. We have 16–17 children aged 1–6 years, and four educators work here.
The small size creates a close and personal operation where children, educators, and parents know each other well. We work with inspiration from the Reggio Emilia philosophy and the curriculum as our foundation, with a strong focus on each child's individual development, curiosity, and learning.
As a parent cooperative, Kabinen is run by an economic association where parents are engaged in the activities. As director, you will work closely with the board and parent group, while maintaining clear professional responsibility for the educational activities.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for someone who is secure, clear, and attentive and who is passionate about children's development and pedagogy.
You are a present leader who builds trust and joy in work, and who values colleagues' competence, ideas, and experience. You are close to daily operations while being able to step back, see the bigger picture, and drive the activities forward.
We believe that you:
feel confident bearing overall responsibility for the activities and making decisions, prioritizing, and holding everything together – even when the role demands a lot
understand that the director role involves both closeness and responsibility – being a present pedagogical leader, but also the person who ultimately needs to maintain direction, quality, personnel, and activities
have a genuine interest in children's development, learning, and preschool pedagogy
feel confident making decisions and taking responsibility, while remaining unpretentious and attentive
enjoy working in a small organization where there is a close connection between ideas, decisions, and implementation
find it easy to collaborate and communicate with staff, guardians, and the board
A preschool teacher qualification and experience in pedagogical leadership are required. Experience as a director or other management role in preschool is a merit.
WHAT WE OFFER
With us, you will have the opportunity to lead and develop a small preschool with a strong staff presence where you can truly make a difference.
We offer, among other things:
16–17 children and four educators
an engaged work team and low staff turnover
the opportunity to combine the director role with work in child groups
great opportunities to influence and develop the activities
an engaged parent group and close collaboration with the board
a transition period with our current director
continuing education, wellness benefits, and work clothing
WE'RE IN NO RUSH – WE'RE LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT PERSON
We would rather wait for the right person than hire quickly. Since our current director is retiring in summer 2027, we have plenty of time to get to know each other.
Maybe you are an experienced preschool teacher and pedagogical leader who wants to take the next step. Maybe you are already a director but miss close pedagogical work. Or perhaps you simply long for a smaller operation where relationships and pedagogical work can take center stage.
Do you recognize yourself? Then we look forward to getting to know you!
APPLICATION
We conduct interviews on an ongoing basis and the position may be filled before the final application deadline.
Send your CV and personal letter as PDF to [email protected]. Please note that the operation cannot answer phone calls regarding questions about the position or expressions of interest.
Please tell us why Kabinen appeals to you, how you view pedagogical leadership, and what characterizes a really good leader.
We welcome your application!
