We are seeking a Legal Director and Department Head for our Legal Department. Be part of shaping the future of education! About the job As Legal Director and Department Head of the Legal Department, you are responsible for developing Skolverket's legal work together with the unit managers in the department. You are responsible for principal and qualified legal matters, including school law and administrative law issues. You ensure that the Legal Department provides adequate legal support to the entire authority. You are also responsible for coordinating, developing, and managing Skolverket's regulations. Your assignment includes managing, developing, and maintaining Skolverket's information service with the qualified and service-oriented support provided to our target groups and the public. You are also responsible for driving, coordinating, and developing Skolverket's work with information management and security matters, as well as the authority's internal preparedness work. Skolverket has been a preparedness authority since 2022. The Legal Department has five units with a total of approximately 90 employees. You lead and advance the department based on Skolverket's shared priorities. In the department's management group, which includes five unit managers and one department coordinator, you work to ensure that the department operates with focus and efficiency. You work with a holistic perspective for both the department and Skolverket. You drive continuous improvement work for the department's working methods, development, and skills supply. Your role includes following and understanding developments in schools, particularly the major reforms the education system is facing right now. You see how changes in governance and regulations affect operations and translate this into strategic choices. You plan work so that the department can handle unforeseen events alongside ongoing operations. You report directly to Skolverket's Director General and are an important part of the authority's management group, where you contribute to the development of the entire authority and to achieving our goals. You work closely with different parts of the organization to promote development and efficiency. Your duties also include representing Skolverket externally and in the media. Read more at www.skolverket.se/jobb For this position, you should have: A law degree (juris candidate) Current and many years of experience in a broad range of qualified legal work in public administration Very good knowledge of public law Current and many years of experience as a manager with operational, personnel, and budget responsibility Experience with strategic development both in management groups and within your own area of responsibility Very good language skills in Swedish and English (spoken and written). It is advantageous if you have experience managing other managers. It is also advantageous if you have experience as a spokesperson on legal matters and if you have experience with legislation-related work within the Office of the Prime Minister or the committee system. We also appreciate experience working with education issues and experience working with digitalization. As a person, you need to: Have good judgment and be able to make well-considered decisions taking different perspectives into account Be pragmatic and unpretentious Be collaboration-oriented and have the ability to build good relationships Be clear and responsive in how you communicate with others Have the ability to link strategic objectives with operational implementation in everyday work Be goal- and results-oriented and have the ability to drive change and development initiatives.
