We are looking for someone to join our transportation company who won't just pass along information and wait for instructions. We're looking for an operations dispatcher / transportation manager who, after training, will take responsibility for managing the operations of approximately 25 vehicles.
We handle both international and domestic transportation, and we also operate regional beverage distribution. Our operations are seasonal, volatile, and constantly changing. That's why we need someone who can quickly assess a situation, make decisions, and take responsibility for those decisions.
This position is not for someone who wants quiet administrative work, fixed tasks, and daily supervision. It's for someone who wants to manage operations, people, performance, and results.
Your Responsibilities
- managing daily operations and route planning
- assigning work to drivers and cargo handlers
- organizing the operations of approximately 25 vehicles
- handling changes, disruptions, seasonal peaks, and operational problems
- monitoring the quality and performance of employee work
- tracking vehicle utilization, staffing, costs, and results
- collaborating on pricing and terms of contracts
- recommending new hires or terminating relationships with those who don't meet standards
- making independent operational decisions after training
Who We're Looking For:
We're looking for an independent, proactive, and responsible person with natural authority. Someone who thinks strategically, understands that transportation must make sense both operationally and economically, and knows how to see things through to completion.
You don't need to know everything right away. But you must have the ability to learn, independently research information, ask the right questions, and quickly fill knowledge gaps. We'll support you with what's needed. But we won't hold your hand long-term.
What We Need From You:
- at least high school education with graduation; university degree is a plus
- independence, self-discipline, and responsibility
- the ability to lead people and communicate with drivers
- natural authority, good judgment, and fair dealing
- the ability to work with numbers, performance, costs, and results
- resilience to stress and operational changes
- self-learning ability and desire to develop
- knowledge of Excel, Word, and basic computer skills
- Group B driver's license
- experience in transportation, logistics, or operations management is a plus
