About the Workplace The Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Group focuses on defining and understanding the biological processes involved in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. We analyze large datasets collected from patients and cognitively healthy volunteers who undergo extensive examinations including neuroimaging, biomarker measurements, and neuropsychological tests. Our group applies advanced statistical methods to these unique and state-of-the-art datasets to model processes related to aging and disease. The Project Assistant will join a growing multidisciplinary team of neuroscientists, statisticians, biologists, and engineers dedicated to advancing our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. The long-term goal of our research is to contribute to the development of new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases where effective therapies are currently lacking. The research group is led by Dr. Jacob Vogel, and the position is located at the Biomedical Centre (BMC) in Lund. Duties and Responsibilities Recent research has shown that plasma-based proteomics can be used to simultaneously quantify the health of various organs and body systems, including the brain, in living people. Our research group is investigating how effective these methods are for understanding systemic changes in neurodegenerative diseases. The Project Assistant will primarily focus on processing and analyzing large-scale proteomics datasets. The Project Assistant will develop workflows and run existing omics and machine learning-based pipelines to process and post-process these data. The Project Assistant will be encouraged and given the opportunity to lead an independent project analyzing proteomics data in relation to aging and Alzheimer's disease. Other tasks within the research group may also be relevant. The position may also involve international travel to promote education and career development. Qualifications Required for employment: - Master's degree in engineering, neuroscience, statistics, quantitative biology, physics, mathematics, or a similar field. - Fluency in the Python programming language. - Experience with statistical modeling and/or machine learning/AI. - Experience with curation, preprocessing, and/or proteomics data. - Excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written. - We seek someone who is motivated, thorough, and well-organized. - Experience with neuroimaging data analysis. - Experience with UK Biobank. Meritorious for employment: - Experience with git and GitHub. - Expertise in Linux-based parallel computing systems with high computational capacity. Other Information The position is permanent with a provisional start date of November 1, 2026 or by agreement. Full-time (100%).
