Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology
The Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology is part of Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC, https://www.upsc.se/), a center of excellence for experimental plant research and forest biotechnology in northern Sweden. UPSC aims to conduct excellent and innovative basic research and generate knowledge for the benefit of forestry, agriculture, the environment, and society. We study plants from the cellular level to ecophysiology, and from basic research to industrial applications. We seek to understand plants' ability to grow, adapt, and acclimate to a changing world—knowledge that can lead to improved plant varieties, cultivation practices, or industrial processes.
About the Position
The long-term goal of our research is to understand the signaling mechanisms that regulate plant growth and development (https://www.upsc.se/researchers/6171-robert-stephanie-regulation-of-plant-cell-shape-acquisition.html). You will join a research team working to increase our understanding of the signaling that controls cell fate determination in Arabidopsis root tissues. The postdoctoral researcher's work will focus on elucidating the role of the cuticle in this process. The project is based on cell biological methods, including live confocal microscopy, molecular biology, and transcriptomics.
Your Background
Applicants should hold a PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, developmental biology, or related fields. Additionally, applicants should have strong English language skills and the ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with others. Experience with confocal microscopy, Arabidopsis, and transcriptomics is a merit.
