The Heart Center in Umeå aims to provide the best care for cardiac patients in northern Sweden. We offer highly specialized cardiac care and have overall responsibility for patients throughout the region.
The Heart Center includes the Cardiac-Vascular Clinic, Thoracic Surgery, Cardiology, PCI Lab, Arrhythmia Unit, and Clinical Physiology and Center for Cardiovascular Genetics. We evaluate, treat, and operate on patients from across the northern region with diseases of the heart, lungs, and coronary arteries. Through cross-border collaboration, effective care pathways, continuous improvement, and competent staff, we deliver very high-quality care. We have approximately 400 employees at the Heart Center.
Thoracic Surgery is part of the Heart Center and employs anesthesia nurses, operating room nurses, nursing assistants, and perfusionists. Over 1000 procedures are performed annually across four operating rooms. Thoracic Surgery performs thoracic surgical procedures, primarily cardiac and lung surgery, as well as thoracic vascular surgery and chest wall correction procedures. Thorax has regional responsibility and receives patients from across the Northern Region.
The operating rooms are bright, functional, and most are equipped with laminar flow ventilation. We work in teams—naturally with the patient at the center! We are now seeking an operating room nurse for our team for a temporary position from 2026-11-01 through 2027-12-31.

DUTIES
As an operating room nurse with us, you contribute knowledge and commitment that make people feel secure.
In Thoracic Surgery, you work in a team in the operating room with the patient in focus. The work is characterized by mutual respect where all professions collaborate to provide the patient with the best possible treatment and care. Working as an operating room nurse with us means being responsible, together with the anesthesia nurse, for perioperative care. This role includes practical tasks such as instrumentation and assistance in the operating room, as well as non-technical skills such as communication and teamwork. The operating room nurse is also responsible for tasks including inventory management, sterility monitoring, and functional testing of medical equipment.
The assignment includes documentation, development of methods, and mentoring of students and new staff. Additionally, assisting with all tasks occurring in the department within the employee's area of competence.
Working hours are daytime; Monday–Friday 40 hours/week. Additionally, on-call duty with a response time <30 minutes is included.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for a licensed nurse with advanced training in operating room nursing.
You have a strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others from various professions. You can handle acute and stressful situations. As a person, you are adaptable and consider the needs of the entire operation. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and have a positive attitude toward your assignment.
Employment type: Fixed-term employment.
Duration: 6 months or longer, start: From 2026-11-01 or by agreement, end: 2027-12-31.
Work schedule: Shift work.
