Finnish, Yiddish, Meänkieli, Romani Chib, and Sami are national minority languages in Sweden. Students who belong to one of the national minorities have the right to instruction in their native language, regardless of whether it is a living language at home or not. This means that the student has the right to study the language even if it is a beginner language.
Umeå Municipality WANTS MORE when it comes to the development of instruction in the national minority languages, with a special focus on preschool and younger children. A longer development effort is underway based on finding successful language models for instruction in and through the national minority language for both first and second language speakers.
We are now looking for you to help our students continue to develop their language, culture, and identity!
Employment Details
The position is a fixed-term part-time appointment at 40%, starting by agreement until June 9, 2027. Remote work for teachers living elsewhere in Sweden is possible, and the scope may change.
Your Responsibilities
As a native language teacher, you will instruct students from preschool through grade 9 together with other native language teachers. Instruction consists of 120 minutes per week and follows the Swedish curriculum.
Your role may include the following tasks:
Plan, conduct, and follow up on instruction in the relevant language
Assess and assign grades in accordance with applicable curriculum guidelines
Teach students both in in-person and remote instruction (as needed)
Contribute to developing instruction based on our key words: language, culture, and identity
Collaborate with colleagues in our Language Hub for National Minority Languages
Instruction takes place at the student's home school from preschool through grade 3. From grade 4 onward, instruction may be at another school – in which case we offer bus passes if needed. Remote instruction may occur from grade 2 onward, especially in outlying areas.

Requirements
Lule Sami is your native language, or alternatively you have good and documented knowledge in speaking and writing
Approved Swedish B/Swedish 2
Good digital skills
Pedagogical education and/or pedagogical experience
Valid extract from the criminal record register, as required by the Suitability Check Act
Meritorious
Knowledge of additional languages
