Local Manager for Maskrosbarn Youth Center in Umeå
MASKROSBARN · Vollzeit
Umeå C., Umea, Schweden
Maskrosbarn is establishing itself in Umeå and we are now seeking a local manager for our youth center who wants to work with the startup and operations of our youth center! About Us Maskrosbarn is a children's rights organization that supports children whose parents struggle with substance abuse, mental illness, or who expose them to violence. Over the years, we have met thousands of children and on their behalf, Maskrosbarn also conducts awareness-raising work to help more people see and discover children suffering at home, as well as advocacy work to improve laws, processes, and systems that affect children's opportunities for a better life. We collaborate with municipalities, regions, government agencies, and other actors throughout Sweden. We have approximately 40 employees in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö, as well as around 250 committed supporters throughout the country. About the Assignment Maskrosbarn's operations in Umeå are planned to include four full-time employees from spring 2027 onwards, as well as volunteers/part-time staff. The local operations will mirror the support services in the other cities and will offer three support programs: a youth center every Thursday evening, counseling sessions with a therapist, and a child ombudsman service. The youth center, Thursday Coziness, takes place every Thursday evening between 16:30-20:00. Thursday Coziness is the heart of the operations and is an important and appreciated support for the youth. Thursdays are a safe place for young people to be, eat dinner together, participate in activities, and experience community with trustworthy adults and other young people. As the local manager for the youth center, you have a central role in building up and developing Thursday Coziness. Together with your colleagues, you are responsible for planning, implementing, and developing Thursday Coziness. You recruit, introduce, and supervise volunteers and ensure that the operations maintain high quality and are based on the needs of the young people. The role also includes some administration, planning, and budget monitoring. You also manage Maskrosbarn's food and clothing support that is linked to the youth center. This means coordinating orders, deliveries, and distribution so that the support functions in a safe and well-organized manner. Working at a small office in startup mode means that all employees need to be unpretentious and step in wherever needed, for example, you may need to present Maskrosbarn to both young people in the target group and to professionals/adults who work with the target group. This position is a permanent full-time employment starting in January 2027. A probation period may apply. Who Are You? As someone applying for this role as local manager of Maskrosbarn's youth center, you are warm, open, and genuine in your interactions with young people and colleagues. Since you are responsible for the content of Thursday Coziness, you need to be initiative-taking, creative, and able to create and come up with fun, challenging, and educational activities for the young people. At the same time, you are flexible and have a talent for planning and creating structures based on the needs of the youth group. You need to be able to adapt your approach to be both playful with the young people as well as a trustworthy adult. You need to be able to supervise volunteers in a kind and clear manner. You: Have some form of post-secondary education as a youth leader, social pedagogue, or equivalent experience that we consider equivalent. Have documented experience working with young people Have good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing Identify yourself as a Maskrosbarn child; you have grown up with a parent who has struggled with substance abuse, mental illness, or who has exposed you to violence. This is a requirement for this role as identification between young people and staff is part of our method. We further believe that you: Are flexible with working hours as Thursdays are scheduled for evenings Are warm and outgoing with a good ability to build relationships and trust with young people Are self-driven, structured, and can plan your time well Have the ability to hold space for young people's difficult emotions Enjoy being the driving force in finding activities that the young people appreciate and can work well together with colleagues toward common goals Find it enjoyable to work with young people Find it exciting to be part of starting up an operation from scratch and thrive in a work environment where everyone helps each other Want to be part of a familial nonprofit organization We value diversity and encourage applications from people with different backgrounds and experiences. This position is a permanent full-time employment starting in January 2027. A probation period may apply. Application We welcome your application through our recruitment system by September 27, 2026. We would like you to include a CV and a cover letter where you answer the questions below: Why are you the right fit for this position? What relevant experience do you have for this position? Why are you a Maskrosbarn child? Interview 1 will take place week 41, October 6-8 in Umeå. If you advance in the process, interview 2 will be conducted during week 43, October 20-22 in Umeå. Upon employment, an extract from the Police Records is required (work with children in activities other than school). Questions?
