Streets and Parks plans, builds, develops and manages the municipality's public outdoor environments. This includes streets and squares, parks and green areas. We work to ensure the city is well-maintained, beautiful, safe and accessible - all for a well-functioning and pleasant everyday life for all the municipality's residents - every day of the year. We are now looking for a committed landscape architect who can help develop Umeå's green structure and public spaces. The position is a permanent full-time role.
As a landscape architect, you are part of the park department team led by the park operations manager, who also holds the title of city gardener. The department consists of six landscape architects, five landscape engineers, one stormwater strategist, and the operations manager for the municipality's park operations run in-house. Together, you will coordinate and plan the development, operation and maintenance of the municipality's parks and neighborhood nature.
Main Responsibilities
Your main tasks are planning and development of public spaces in the city, parks and nature. For example, you may participate in plans and surveys, act as client and technical expertise in design for new construction and renovation, or carry out smaller projects from start to finish.
Other Responsibilities
You also participate in physical planning where you contribute your expertise in various types of assignments and projects within the municipality. The role also includes managing smaller projects and consulting assignments, collaboration and dialogue with residents.
About You
You have a master's degree in landscape architecture, or other university education with clear relevance to work with landscape, urban development and public environments. You have good knowledge of Swedish and can express yourself clearly and professionally in both speech and writing.
We would like you to have a few years of experience in the field. Experience working with public environments, parks, urban development or physical planning is an asset. You are welcome to be practically inclined and have an interest in the technical and implementation-oriented part of the work. Experience with technical design, CAD, cost estimation or similar is an asset. Experience from municipal work and maintenance planning is also an asset.
You are interested in working with the development of urban environments for residents' benefit and long-term sustainability. You appreciate working together with others and coordinating different perspectives in complex issues. You have the ability to work in a structured and efficient manner, take responsibility for your tasks and drive the work forward with a focus on delivery and results.
We would like you to submit a portfolio with relevant work samples together with your application. The portfolio may be used as part of the assessment before a possible interview.
