About the Workplace The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating existing ones, and expanding, and we are now seeking more staff members. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. When we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, detention centers, and inmate transportation. Högsbo Facility is located in Västra Frölunda and is a facility for men in security class 2. Adjacent to the facility is Högsbo Detention Center. Currently, a renovation is underway as planned spaces for children and young people are scheduled to be completed by 2027, with a total of 8 units and 56 places in total. Due to the renovation, currently only one common detention center is in operation, with a total of 72 places. Sagsjön is a facility for women located in Lindome just south of Gothenburg and is divided between security class two (closed unit) and three (open unit). It is the second largest women's facility in Sweden and has recently opened 10 places for children and young people. Sagsjön Facility will continue to have 128 places but distributed across security class two, three, and places for children and young people. Job Responsibilities Do you want to contribute to a safer and more secure society? As a correctional officer, you are the foundation of security work. You work in a team with other professionals to maintain a safe and secure operation and to motivate clients toward a life without crime. Daily work involves both locking and unlocking residential units, inspection of premises and supervision, as well as counseling conversations and release preparation and more. The role of correctional officer involves a structured and routine-based approach with risk assessment and security awareness in focus. The work is varied and there are many development opportunities for those seeking continued employment. The position involves placement across the entire operational area, which means you need to be flexible and able to work at both Högsbo and Sagsjön. You are also expected to be open to working with different target groups based on operational needs. Placement in a special unit for clients under 18 years of age may also be relevant. The focus will be on creating safe environments that promote reintegration into society with activities including school, student health services, employment, and recreational activities appropriate to age. Otherwise, the child's rights during the sentence shall be safeguarded in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Through client-centered work, we create a meaningful existence in an otherwise adult and security-focused environment. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be confident, stable, have good self-awareness, good judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operation, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You must be able to act physically when required. For us, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and belief in people's will and ability to develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect you and others. Furthermore, your approach is expected to contribute to everyone being treated equally. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. We are seeking someone who has: Complete upper secondary education or other education in combination with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant Work experience, including seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment Good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing Good computer skills It is also meritorious to have: Work experience from the criminal justice system, security work, social care, psychiatry, or care and welfare work Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management Work experience with children and young people in social services, SiS, school, or other activities that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant Experience working with children and young people who have neuropsychiatric conditions (NPF) Experience working with young people Relevant language skills Class B driver's license Other Information The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has chosen to remove the personal statement and replaced it with selection questions relevant to the position. Your answers to the selection questions and your CV form the basis for whether you are qualified to proceed in the process. To be considered for employment with the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, you must meet high standards regarding suitability, judgment, security and confidentiality awareness, and compliance with applicable laws. This means you stand up for democratic values and the state values that apply to the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's operations.
