About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking more staff members. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. When we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, remand facilities, and inmate transport. The Umeå operations area encompasses the closed prison Umeå, the open prison Sörbyn, and the remand facility Umeå. We are undergoing significant capacity expansion and there is much happening in the operations area in the form of renovations and new construction. The largest occupational group is correctional officers, but we also employ healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production supervisors, and others. At Sörbyn prison, inmates are engaged in labor market training, learning centers, various treatment programs, or work in kitchens, carpentry, crop cultivation, textiles, and more. Sörbyn is an agricultural prison with grain cultivation and animal husbandry. At Umeå prison, inmates are engaged in wood/industry work, kitchens, learning centers, and treatment programs. To Umeå prison and the remand facility, it is approximately 10 minutes' walk from the nearest bus stop, and Sörbyn prison is most easily reached by car. Staff parking is available at all units. Umeå prison is in an expansion phase with both renovations and new construction expected to be completed in the near future. You are offered a varied workday where flexibility is required.
