I'm 46 years old and live with my husband, son, and a scruffy little dog in Huddinge, south of Stockholm. Most of the time, I live the world's best life: with a house, a Volvo, and a job as a journalist, author, and speaker (plus being a parent 24/7…)
But: Even Madonna is nothing without her makeup artists, songwriters, sound technicians, and backup dancers. And I, who am almost completely paralyzed after a riding accident, am totally dependent on personal assistance for most things: like moving, eating, using the toilet – and packing my thirteen-year-old's gym bag, flipping through the newspaper during our sacred morning coffee hour, and touching up my mascara before a concert with the choir I sing in.
Just a completely normal life, with a few extraordinary circumstances. That's where you come in!
You are the engine of my life. You are super focused, attentive, thorough – and probably never give up, not even when things get tough. You will know exactly how I want my makeup, my heating pads, and my shower water, and you'll pick up on my tone of voice when I'm stressed, delighted, annoyed with my husband, tired, and bothered by aches and pains that I'm trying in vain to hide. Most importantly, you understand your own importance in allowing me to maintain my social roles – being a mom, wife, friend, colleague, and daughter. Among other things.
That said, you really don't need to have worked in healthcare or similar. I don't need any medical help. But you certainly understand that the work is very physical!
The job works great for you if you freelance, study, have a horse, or something else you want to fit into your life. Work days will vary – most common is that we work full-day shifts, 15 hours at a time (7–22 or 8–23), which amounts to about 2–3 shifts per week at full-time. This position corresponds to 2 days (30 hours) per week. And you need a driver's license! The arrangement is that you drive, I control the radio.
