MAX IV operates two storage rings and a linear accelerator to generate synchrotron radiation. The facility's largest accelerator, the 3 GeV electron storage ring, was the first in the world to use a multi-bend-achromat (MBA) structure, enabling synchrotron light with ultra-high brightness and very low emittance. Today, only a few such storage rings are in operation worldwide, although many facilities across the globe are now being upgraded in this direction. To maintain its leading position, MAX IV is planning a comprehensive upgrade of the 3 GeV ring, called MAX 4U, with the goal of significantly improving the light source's performance. The upgrade includes the development of innovative magnet and RF systems. MAX IV is seeking an engineer/physicist in electromagnetic systems who can contribute to the development of new electromagnetic systems for MAX IV and MAX 4U, with the opportunity to progressively take on increased technical responsibility for important accelerator components. Your Team You will work in the Accelerator Development group, which consists of experts in several accelerator fields, including accelerator physics, RF structures, magnets, and laser systems. The group is part of MAX IV's Accelerator Division, which is responsible for the development and operation of all accelerator-based light sources at MAX IV. The division is also responsible for carrying out the comprehensive accelerator upgrade as part of the MAX 4U project. About the Role Electromagnetic systems are central to the performance and development of MAX IV's accelerators. The reliability and precision of these systems are critical for stable operation and for delivering high-quality light to our users. As part of MAX 4U, several advanced accelerator systems will be developed and commissioned. We are therefore seeking an engineer/physicist in electromagnetic systems who will play a key role in this development, while also helping to strengthen MAX IV's internal expertise and supporting our existing accelerator systems. Your main responsibilities will be Design, development, testing, and commissioning of advanced electromagnetic systems for MAX IV and MAX 4U, including: RF electron guns DC and AC magnets RF-based structures Contribute to technical responsibility for electromagnetic accelerator subsystems. Maintain and strengthen internal expertise in electromagnetic systems. Support the operation of MAX IV accelerator systems. To succeed in this role, you must have the following qualifications University degree in engineering or physics, or equivalent. Fluent English, both spoken and written. The following are considered merits Experience with electromagnetic design and simulation tools, such as CST Studio, COMSOL, GdfidL, or FEMM. Previous experience designing electromagnetic systems for particle accelerators, such as: RF electron guns DC and AC magnets RF-based structures Project management skills. Experience working with particle accelerators. As a person, you are collaborative and enjoy working in teams, while also being able to work independently and take your own initiatives.
