IT Department Do you want to lead and develop Sweden's University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) central IT platforms and contribute to a stable, secure, and modern IT environment for research, education, and administration? The IT Department at SLU is seeking a Group Manager for Platform. We are looking for someone who wants to combine present and trust-based leadership with the development of services, working methods, and technical platforms in a large and complex organization. About the job As Group Manager for Platform, you will lead approximately 10 employees located in Uppsala, Umeå, and Alnarp. The group is responsible for central services within server and platform operations and works closely with other parts of the IT Department and operations at SLU. The group is responsible for developing and managing the IT Department's virtualization solutions, server operations, databases, Microsoft Azure, and container solutions. As group manager, you have personnel, budget, and operational responsibility. You lead the group's work and ensure that services are developed and delivered cost-effectively, securely, and with the organization's needs in focus. An important part of the assignment is to work together with the group's specialists, other parts of the IT Department, and IT coordinators in the organization to translate technical capabilities and operational needs into clear and manageable services. Your main areas of responsibility are to: lead, support, and develop employees with high technical competence be responsible for the group's operations and finances ensure stable and appropriate delivery and management of the group's services drive development toward modern platforms and working methods develop service offerings, processes, procedures, and documentation conduct continuous improvement work and change management collaborate with the organization, other parts of the IT Department, suppliers, and other external parties be responsible for budgeting, financial follow-up and forecasting, and parts of the group's purchasing and supplier management. You will be part of the management group for the IT Infrastructure unit and work closely with the Group Manager for Network and the unit manager on the unit's joint development and goals. On-call services may be part of the work. Your background We are looking for someone who has: relevant academic education in, for example, systems science or computer science, or equivalent competence that SLU deems equivalent documented experience leading and developing IT employees experience leading employees working in multiple geographic locations experience in IT management and in structuring and developing management work documented experience in change management and implementing changes that affect technology, working methods, and people experience translating operational needs into defined IT services, service offerings, and agreed deliveries experience with budget responsibility, financial follow-up, and forecasting good knowledge of process-oriented working methods in IT, for example ITIL good knowledge of information security and its application within IT infrastructure experience in IT operations at a university, college, or other large academic organization. It is advantageous if you have experience with: modern platforms within IT infrastructure leading and developing structured management work developing service models and systematic follow-up of IT deliveries working in a larger IT organization systematic information security work procurement and supplier management within IT operational work within IT infrastructure working at a government agency working according to ITIL, SAFe, or similar frameworks. You as a person To succeed in the role, you need to be able to combine present and trust-based leadership with structure, development capability, and a genuine interest in both people and technology. You are unpretentious and create conditions for employees to take responsibility and develop. You build trusting relationships and are good at collaborating across organizational and professional boundaries. You work in a structured manner, drive matters forward, and can switch between daily delivery and longer-term development issues. You need to be able to understand technical issues at a level that allows you to lead specialists and translate technical capabilities into operational benefit. The role requires clear and trust-building communication with employees and technical specialists as well as operational representatives and management.
