At the Swedish Migration Agency, we work with one of our time's major societal issues – migration. In total, we are approximately 6,000 people here, and we have an unusually important job! We are seeking a Detention Officer for the Detention Facility in Gävle. At a detention unit, people who have received a deportation or expulsion decision and who need to be available for enforcement are placed in custody. A person can also be detained if the right to reside in the country or their identity needs to be investigated. The facility is a closed unit and operations run 24 hours a day. Work is based on current legislation where legal certainty, dignity, and safety are important. The role includes work with care, supervision, searches, and security. You conduct conversations during, for example, admission and discharge as well as to inform about decisions. You identify and address any special needs of detained individuals and organize activities for them. You also ensure a calm, safe, and secure environment at the facility through conducting security checks and searches. Participation in transports, responsibility for food handling, and certain administrative tasks are also part of the position. The work can be physically demanding to some extent. The work may also require you to intervene physically during incidents. You have good self-awareness and can distinguish between the personal and professional. Since operations are dynamic, you need to be calm and stable even under stress or pressure, maintain a realistic perspective, and focus on the right things. You thrive with variation and easily adapt and change your approach when circumstances change. In our work as civil servants, high standards of judgment and strong security and confidentiality awareness are also required. You have: Upper secondary education or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way Experience working with requirements for good service and professional conduct Very good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written Good knowledge of English It is an advantage if you have: Experience working with people in vulnerable situations Experience in social work, such as care work, mental health, substance abuse, or similar Experience working in a locked environment, such as detention, correctional services, forensic psychiatry, or similar operations Academic education with a legal, social science, or behavioral science focus Category B driving license Information Employment type: Permanent position with probation period, and temporary assignment for 6-24 months.
