The Faculty of Technology is one of Linnaeus University's five faculties. We gather the university's education and research in technical subjects. Operations are organized in eight departments and a faculty office. Here you will also find Linnaeus University Centre DISA and two Linnaeus Knowledge Environments: Green Sustainable Development and Digital Transformations. Several of the faculty's research groups collaborate within the strategic area Forest Values. The Department of Computer Science and Media Technology is responsible for a large number of education programs at basic and advanced levels in computer science, software development, and media technology. The department offers programs at both basic and advanced levels, as well as civil engineering programs. Currently, just over 60 employees work at the department. The department has strong connections to other departments at Linnaeus University as well as to industrial and public collaboration partners. Job Description: This position combines applied AI research with the development of intelligent web-based systems in the areas of education, culture, humanities, and health care. You will design, implement, and evaluate web-based platforms and AI-based applications, conduct user studies, contribute to scientific publications, and collaborate with researchers, practitioners, and end users. The position is linked to several external and internal research and development projects, including: Generative AI and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) AI-based tutoring and writing support systems within the project https://www.lnu.se/en/research/research-projects/project-awaits--academic-writing-ai-tutoring-system/ and the Digital Transformations knowledge environment AI applications in cultural heritage and civic engagement in the INKUIS project, funded by the Kamprad Family Foundation AI-supported analysis in health informatics within the Health Data of Sweden project funded by the European Commission Research on AI competence and pedagogical innovation within the EU project Teachers' AI Literacy Academy Predictive analytics and visualization dashboards within the Science Council-funded projects UPGRADE and GRAITE Prototype development, iterative development, and implementation in authentic environments are central parts of the role. Some of your work tasks include: Design, develop, and implement AI applications, including NLP pipelines, chatbots, dashboards, and RAG-based systems. Conduct user studies, field evaluations, and data analysis. Develop resources for AI competence and participate in workshops and dissemination activities. Collaborate in interdisciplinary teams and with external partners, and ensure compliance with research ethics, GDPR, and FAIR principles for data management. Contribute to project deliverables and scientific publications. Qualifications: Requirements: Advanced degree in computer science, data science, information technology, or a related AI-focused field. Very strong programming skills in web development and Python, and experience developing AI/ML systems. Expertise in NLP, generative AI, large language models, and RAG architectures. Experience working in research environments and managing junior software developers. Very strong English language skills, both spoken and written. Experience supporting researchers in scientific production and conference presentations. Merits: Experience with social robots, interactive systems, or embedded systems. Knowledge of GDPR, research ethics, and data management. Experience in educational technology, digital humanities, cultural heritage, and/or health informatics. Personal Qualities: We are looking for a person who is curious, collaborative, and engaged in responsible AI development. You thrive with translating research into practical application, working in interdisciplinary environments, and communicating knowledge to both academic and non-academic audiences.
