The Department of Computer Science and Media Technology is responsible for a large number of educational programs at basic and advanced levels in computer science, software engineering, and media technology. Currently, more than 60 people work at the department, and there are strong connections to other departments at Linnaeus University through interdisciplinary education and research. The advertised position will be tied to the research group for information visualization (ISOVIS) led by Professor Andreas Kerren (see http://cs.lnu.se/isovis/). The group is part of the national research infrastructure InfraVis (https://infravis.se) and recruits with this announcement a research engineer in information visualization (hereinafter called "InfraVis Applications Expert") to InfraVis. Description of InfraVis InfraVis is a national research infrastructure funded by the Swedish Research Council to support scientific progress through the application of state-of-the-art data analysis and visualization techniques. InfraVis aims to significantly improve support for data analysis, meet new challenges involving large and complex data, and create competitive advantages for Swedish researchers. The infrastructure consists of visualization experts working with various software solutions and access to advanced visualization environments. InfraVis users will be offered assistance through a national helpdesk with fast response times as well as in-depth projects addressing specific data and software challenges. InfraVis will also provide software solutions based on development in interconnected research groups, curation of international software and best practices, and user training in the form of courses, seminars, and online documentation. To build an infrastructure with national coverage, nine visualization environments in Sweden have been interconnected in a node structure. The nodes are located near research environments in visualization, enabling direct access to the research frontier as well as state-of-the-art facilities. Job Description: InfraVis Applications Experts will be responsible for support and development within visualization of scientific data. General responsibilities for the applications expert include advanced user support, selection of appropriate software, development of visualization tools, and training of user groups from many different research areas. See the description of InfraVis above. Therefore, the primary task is to provide services within the framework of the infrastructure. We offer collaboration in a national infrastructure with a large group of other InfraVis experts anchored at the nine different universities. InfraVis Applications Experts are encouraged to continue developing their professional and technical skills, both to stay current within their own field of science, but also to broaden their knowledge and skills in other areas. Qualifications: Requirements: For this position as an InfraVis Applications Expert, you must have: A university degree equivalent to at least bachelor's level in computer science or equivalent. As well as solid experience in information visualization, visual analytics, or a closely related field. Good knowledge of modeling and development of visualization tools is a requirement, as is documented experience working with large amounts of abstract data (e.g., multidimensional, temporal, textual, or network data) from various research areas. You must be fluent in professional English, both spoken and written. Meritorious: Good knowledge of Swedish is meritorious, but not required. It is meritorious if you have work experience from a visualization environment. We also take into account experience from other research areas, such as life sciences, digital humanities, social sciences, or machine learning, as meritorious in our assessment. Very good programming skills (Java, JavaScript/HTML5, Python, WebGL/OpenGL), experience developing web-based visualization tools, experience with commercial visual analytics environments (Tableau, Power BI, etc.), and solid training in data mining or machine learning are highly preferred. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. Great weight will be given to strong ability to work independently and in a structured manner, good initiative and ability to prioritize, thoroughness and service-oriented approach, ability to drive and complete work tasks within given time frames, flexibility, and very good collaboration skills.
