We are seeking a research assistant for a fixed-term position at the Department of Medical Sciences, Örebro University. Background The research group conducts an ongoing research project investigating the interaction between the gut and brain, with a focus on how biological factors from the gut environment can affect cellular and molecular processes in brain-related tissues and cell models. The project builds on the development of a humanized experimental model to study mechanisms that can contribute to understanding individual differences in response to nutrition and other factors affecting the gut-brain axis. The work encompasses experimental methods as well as analysis and interpretation of biological data. Duties We are seeking a research assistant who will work closely with the project leader and other researchers in the project. The duties include planning, conducting, and documenting experiments in cell and molecular biology. The work also includes processing, quantification, and interpretation of experimental data. The research assistant is also expected to contribute to the development and optimization of experimental protocols, documentation, and compilation of research results in close collaboration with the project leader and other researchers in the research group. Qualifications We are looking for someone with a master's degree in neuroscience and documented experience of research work in a relevant field. It is an advantage if you are in the final stages of your doctoral education and are expected to defend your thesis before or in close connection with the start of the position. Previous experience with cell biological and molecular biological methods, including cell culture and microscopy-based analyses, is highly desirable. Experience working with stem cells is also an advantage. We would like you to have experience in processing and analyzing biological data. Experience with programming-based analytical methods and working with complex biological datasets is also an advantage. The candidate must also have excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken. We place great emphasis on personal qualities in this recruitment and are looking for someone who is organized, self-driven, communicative, and has good collaboration skills.
