We are looking for you to assist in an exciting interdisciplinary project on healthy aging and culturally adapted food in indigenous communities in Sweden and India!
About the position
The position involves research assistance in the project "Healthy Aging and Culturally Adapted Food in Indigenous Communities in Sweden and India" conducted by an interdisciplinary research team at SLU and Umeå University. The project leader is Lecturer Ildikó Asztalos Morell. The project is designed according to an action-based research model where we promote the implementation of Sámi food within a number of municipal administrations.
Your work tasks include:
assisting in research by conducting literature reviews
conducting and analyzing interviews and survey responses
writing texts for the project and organizing workshops
Your background
We are looking for an independent and motivated colleague with prior experience in rural development issues and the Sámi food system.
For employment, it is a requirement that you:
have written your bachelor's or master's thesis in a social science subject and that it concerns the Sámi food system and rural development or sustainable development
have experience with literature searching
can conduct interviews with various types of stakeholders
can perform analyses of democratic processes related to power and ethnicity
communicate well in both Swedish and English
It is advantageous if you have:
strong skills in analysis of text, quantitative data, and/or interviews
experience in compiling reports

About us
At the Department of Urban and Rural Development, undergraduate education, doctoral education, research, and collaboration are conducted across five divisions: agrarian history, landscape architecture, rural development, environmental communication, and the division for political science and natural resource management, which includes SIDA's environmental assessment helpdesk. The department also houses the Center for Nature Guidance (CNV). The department is the largest at SLU in the social sciences, humanities, and design. Issues concerning sustainable use of natural resources and landscapes are central to the department's research, teaching, and collaboration. The department employs approximately 160 people.
The assistant position is within the Rural Development Division. We focus on how ideas about development have material consequences in both the global north (particularly in Sweden and Europe) and the global south. Our research, teaching, and collaboration focus on issues of justice, knowledge, and power in agriculture and forestry, natural resource management, and rural development. The division offers an international master's program in rural development and natural resource management and a 5-year program in agronomy with a focus on rural development.

Employment form:
Hourly paid employment; fixed-term employment. This means you will be offered work during shorter periods within the period specified below under "Scope." You can accept or decline each work opportunity you are offered. When you accept one or more job occasions, a new employment is entered into for these occasions.
Scope:
The employment encompasses a minimum of 80 hours but may be extended if there is opportunity. Work is to commence October 1, 2026 and can run until a maximum of January 31, 2027.
Start date:
October 1, 2026 or by agreement.
