You'll work closely with daily operations while driving technical development, projects, and improvements with a focus on more resource-efficient and sustainable operations.
The Production unit is part of the Facilities and Treatment department, where around 100 colleagues work together to create a more sustainable and circular future. Here you'll find expertise in machine operators, engineers, supervisors, operations technicians, and specialists in waste and recycling—all with a common goal of advancing our operations.
About the Role
As an operations engineer for waste facilities, you'll work closely with daily operations and facility development. Approximately half your time will be spent in the field working with production planning, operations and process optimization, and development of areas such as sorting facilities, paper recycling, crushing, and fuel management.
You'll drive internal projects and work with technical development, strategic procurement, and purchasing of machinery and equipment. Another important part of the role is developing our methods and waste flows so we use resources as efficiently as possible. You'll collaborate broadly across the organization with supervisors, managers, technical specialists, and machine operators.
The role combines operational work with a long-term perspective. You need to be able to see the bigger picture in waste flows, identify improvement opportunities, and drive solutions that develop both operations and economics.
You don't need to know the waste industry when you start. If you have a technical background, are curious about how processes and facilities work, and enjoy learning new areas, there's an opportunity here to build broad specialist expertise in waste and circular flows.
This is a role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems and finding new ways forward. In the waste sector, there's rarely a ready-made manual for how things should be done. New materials, technical possibilities, and changing conditions constantly create new challenges. You'll therefore have the opportunity to analyze, develop, and drive solutions that improve operations, economics, and resource efficiency.

We're looking for someone with:
- An engineering degree or other relevant higher education or university degree in areas such as operations technology, process technology, environmental technology, energy technology, or similar.
- Experience with and/or knowledge of production and process flows, preferably from a technical or industrial operation.
- Knowledge of environmental legislation and safety regulations relevant to technical operations and facility operations.
- Strong IT skills and experience with the Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent ability to express yourself in Swedish, both verbally and in writing.
- Category B driver's license, manual transmission.
It's an advantage if you also have:
- Experience operating technical facilities or production processes, preferably in waste, energy, industry, or other technical operations.
- Experience in municipal operations or as a consultant to the public sector.

This position is permanent full-time and may begin with a 6-month trial period. You'll be based at our operations office at Gryta waste facility, Returvägen 20, in Västerås.
