Now we're looking for you to help shape it. When the lights come on, businesses can continue, and society runs smoothly – it's easy to take electricity for granted. Behind a reliable power grid are people who plan, analyze, and make decisions long before anyone notices they're needed. Karlstads Energi is now seeking an Operations Engineer for our Power Distribution business area. Here you'll work close to the operational core of a critical societal power grid with installations ranging from 0.4 kV up to 130 kV, while also helping develop the network for future needs. Electrification is increasing and the demands on a robust and accessible power grid are growing. As an Operations Engineer, you'll work at the intersection of operations, technology, analysis, and development. You'll be part of a small and competent operations team of seven people, where each team member has significant responsibility and where we work closely together to solve both today's and tomorrow's challenges. This is a role for someone who wants to understand the big picture, solve technical challenges, and contribute to Karlstads power grid functioning – both in daily operations and in long-term development. The work is varied and sometimes event-driven, which means you need to be able to analyze situations quickly, prioritize, and help restore normal operations when needed. Responsibilities As an Operations Engineer, you play a central role in planning, coordinating, monitoring, and developing the operations of Karlstads power grid. The role covers both long-term operational planning and responsibility for daily operations. You plan and coordinate work and outages, conduct operations-related analyses, and handle technical issues for safe and well-planned operations. The work is varied and partly event-driven. One day you might work on analyses, operational planning, or development issues; the next, your focus might be on managing operational disruptions, investigating deviations, or supporting the business with urgent technical questions. You therefore need to thrive in a role where conditions can change quickly and where you can prioritize, act, and make well-founded decisions when the situation demands it. You also participate in matters concerning grid capacity and development, customer connections, and internal development and investment projects. You provide technical support to colleagues and collaborate closely with operations technicians, planners, project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders. The work spans the entire network, from 0.4 kV to 130 kV, and combines the operational perspective with long-term network development. Over time, the role may also involve joining our on-call organization as a duty engineer, where you help manage disruptions and ensure high availability in the power grid. Qualifications We're looking for someone with a technical background in power engineering, power distribution, or a related field. You might already work as an Operations Engineer, Power Engineer, Operations Manager, Network Planner, or in another technical role close to the power system. You might have taken a different path into the industry. We're open to different experiences and backgrounds. You have education in power engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent competence acquired through work experience, along with a good understanding of power distribution and electrical power systems. You're experienced at analyzing technical issues, seeing connections, and translating your knowledge into practical solutions. Good computer skills, a valid driver's license, and fluent Swedish and English in speech and writing are required. Experience from distribution or regional networks, operational planning, control centers, network analysis, capacity assessments, network development, protective relay planning, or power calculations is a plus. Knowledge of ESA and EBR systems is also valuable. As a person, you're curious, analytical, and well-organized. You take responsibility, are comfortable with complex technical issues, and appreciate close collaboration where you can contribute your expertise to the team's collective results. What matters is that you have a solid technical foundation, an interest in power engineering, and a willingness to develop with us.
