Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked as one of the world's leading academic institutions. We have approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our mission to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's conditions. Description of the Operations The Division of Security and Network Systems within the Department of Electrical and Information Technology conducts broad research in cryptography, data security, and wireless and fixed networks. The division carries out several research projects through various collaboration platforms, organizes research conferences and seminars that showcase research and its results. The research platforms are also used to create interdisciplinary projects, contribute to national and international research networks, enabling the division to offer a dynamic research environment. We are now seeking a new PhD student to work in cybersecurity and software engineering in a project financed by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, SSF. Being a PhD Student As a PhD student, you are both admitted as a student and employed by Lund University. As a graduate student, you are trained in a scientific approach. In short, you develop skills in critical and analytical thinking, learn to solve problems independently using appropriate methods, and gain research ethical awareness. Additionally, as a PhD student, you have the opportunity to work on projects, develop your leadership skills, and enhance your pedagogical abilities. Throughout your studies, you are guided by supervisors. Graduate studies conclude with a thesis and a doctoral degree. More information about being a PhD student at LTH is available at lth.se. Project Description You will work in the RESIST project and primarily contribute to the area of protecting distributed AI. RESIST, in collaboration with Linköping University, Örebro University, and the research institute RISE, is a multidisciplinary research center working on the rapidly growing field of developing conditions and techniques to protect future AI-based systems. The center is led by Linköping University with Lund University as a partner. Responsibilities You will primarily focus on your graduate education, which includes participation in research projects as well as graduate courses, seminars, and conferences. Your main responsibilities are to conduct research and teaching at the intersection of cybersecurity and software engineering. The research focuses on automated principles for analyzing program code. This includes using AI models to analyze and correct software to eliminate vulnerabilities. For example, AI-generated code often has significant security flaws. To enable the use of AI-generated code in high-security applications, code generation must be made much more robust. Your responsibilities include evaluating existing techniques from a security perspective and finding principles for automated analysis and code correction. Case studies and experimental research are expected to be central methodologies in your PhD project. Your responsibilities also include participation in teaching and other departmental work (however, no more than 20% of your working time). Qualifications To be admitted and employed as a PhD student, you must meet the requirements below. Eligibility Requirements You meet the basic eligibility requirements for graduate-level education if you have: completed a degree at the advanced level, or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits are at the advanced level, or acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way. You meet the specific eligibility requirements for electrical engineering if you have: at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level relevant to the subject area, or a degree as a Civilingenjör (civil engineer) in computer science, electrical engineering, information and communication technology, medicine and technology, engineering physics, engineering mathematics, or engineering nanoscience.
