About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking more employees. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, detention centers, and inmate transport. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service in Kalmar is expanding and currently has several ongoing projects and new establishments ahead. Establishment of a Class 3 prison, a new detention center scheduled to be operational in 2027, and a new correctional facility expected to be completed in 2030. The expansion creates great opportunities and several new employees within various professional categories will need to be recruited in the coming years. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is its own healthcare provider that provides certain open health and medical care at the primary care level and certain psychiatric outpatient care. In the Eastern Region, nurses, psychologists, and a number of contracted general practitioners and psychiatrists work at the healthcare clinics located at our detention centers and prisons. Job Responsibilities Within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, you work with a complex and important societal mission where you can make a difference. As a leader, you help your employees equip our clients in various ways to lead lives free from crime and drugs, what we call Better Out. As a chief, you lead, develop, and follow up on operations and provide support to your employees in daily work. Your responsibilities include personnel, budget, and work environment responsibility for your employees. As a correctional inspector within health and medical care, you also conduct investigations, prepare decision-making materials, provide recommendations for decisions in various healthcare matters, and ensure that new procedures and regulations are implemented. You are an advisor and sounding board for managers and care personnel in operations and strategic support for correctional chiefs. You participate in regular collaboration and cooperation at the national level with operations experts and medical leaders responsible for health and medical care, as well as with the healthcare provider's representatives. You report directly to the Assistant Correctional Chief and are part of the management group. Together with your colleagues, you are expected to take shared responsibility for your own unit and, when needed, your colleagues' units. Through your leadership, you are expected to drive change management and create conditions for a stable health and medical care organization locally. The management group forms an important platform for your leadership. Qualifications We are looking for someone who is good at collaborating and has the ability to engage others. You are clear in your communication and can adapt your message based on the recipient's circumstances. You are calm and professional even in demanding situations and have the ability to adapt to changed circumstances. In your professional role, you have an analytical perspective, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with your employees to drive development and change work within one of the world's best correctional systems. Of course, you have a strong commitment to society and you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in people's willingness and ability to develop. You also understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. We place great importance on your personal qualities. We are looking for someone who has: • Academic degree and license in healthcare • Experience in personnel management • Good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written • Category B driver's license It is meriting if you have: • Documented leadership training, for example the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's management training program or other leadership training • Management experience (personnel, work environment, and budget responsibility) • Experience working within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service • Relevant experience from other public sector operations • Experience with development work in the field of health and medical care in larger organizations • Experience with planning, analysis, and follow-up work • Experience with investigation work and/or project work • Experience with coordinating assignments Other Information The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has chosen to remove the personal letter and replaced it with selection questions relevant to the position.
